LLANIDLOES Town’s hopes of runners-up spot in the Spar Mid Wales League division one were dashed after suffering a 1-0 loss against Carno at Victoria Avenue.

It proved a frustrating encounter for the Daffs, who held the upper hand for most part, but succumbed to a second half strike from Scott Williams.

That result means that long time leaders Welshpool Town will finish runners-up, behind champions Llanrhaeadr who are set to step up to the Cymru Alliance next season.

Llanidloes can still finish a creditable third as they look to bring the curtain down on their campaign with a win in their trip to Machynlleth on Wednesday.

"The lads were disappointed as it was a big game for us," said manager Hugh Clarke after the defeat last weekend.

"We did not do enough, but we were by far the stronger side and, had we got the first goal, we could have gone on to win by two or three goals in this match.

"We had opportunities, but they caught us on the break when we lost the ball. Once they scored, it picked them up and gave them something to hang on to."

The Daffs enjoyed plenty of possession, but were unable to carve a way through after being frustrated by their local rivals on a drying surface.

Despite their efforts, they paid the price midway through the second half when the visitors broke after Peter Rees lost the ball, and Williams provided a good finish.

They went close to rescuing a point late on, with George Clarke firing into the side netting while Ash Owen blazed over.

Bow Street bounced back from a 2-1 defeat at Radnor Valley in the Spar Mid Wales League division one on Saturday, with a 4-0 win at Kerry on Bank Holiday Monday.

A superb strike from Tom Williams had opened the scoring at Radnor, but they hit back when Cal Matthews fired home from 25 yards, and Joey Price went around the keeper to slot home the winner.

On Monday, Bow Street bounced back as a Rhun Garner brace, Andrew Gittins and an own goal sealed a solid victory at Kerry, whilst two goals from Joey Price earned Radnor a 2-0 over Berriew.

Newly-crowned league champions Llanrhaeadr beat Llandrindod Wells, 3-0 with goals from Tom Evans, with a brace, and Khyam Wyton, and they followed that up with a 4-0 win at Tywyn/Bryncrug.Goals from Adam Burgess, Iain Edmunds, Dan Graham and Tom Evans earned the champions their 24th win from 28 league matches on Monday.Tywyn had also crashed to a 6-0 defeat at home to Berriew on Saturday, with goals by Luke Vickers, Steff Rogers, with a brace, Jake Mann, George Davies and Josh Morgan.

In the League Cup Quarter-Finals, Llanfair United marched on with a 5-3 win over Knighton Town, with goals from Josh Astley, an own goal, Matt Spencer, Alun Hughes and Paul Griffiths.

Llanfair will now face Bow Street at Llanidloes on 15 May in the semi-final.

Llanfair followed that up with a 5-0 win at Borth United, courtesy of doubles from Dan Kenyon and Matt Bumford, and an Andrew Hughes goal.

On Tuesday, a late Adam Davies goal saw Welshpool through to the League Cup final with a 2-1 win over Aberaeron at Llanidloes.

Will Thomas had given Pool a first half lead with a strong run and near post finish, but Ryan Evans put through his own net on the hour to bring the Ceredigion side level.

Evans, however, then made up for his own goal when his long raking ball found Adam Davies, who held up several opponents to squeeze the ball home, to put the club into its first final for many years.
