DOLGELLAU Athletic delivered an impressive performance to claim a convincing 5-1 victory over a strong Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant side in their Lock Stock Ardal North East clash at Cae Marian on Tuesday evening.

The hosts played with intensity, purpose and pace throughout, causing the visitors problems from the opening whistle.

Gerwyn Williams set the tone after just four minutes, turning home from close range following a surging run and pinpoint cross from Tomos Jones.

Williams doubled both his and Dolgellau's tally shortly afterwards, curling a superb effort beyond visiting goalkeeper Jack Jones.

The hosts continued to dominate and were rewarded with a third goal on the half-hour mark when Paul Lewis' dangerous cross was diverted into his own net by defender Max Evans.

Dolgellau tightened their grip on the contest moments later as Ioan Roberts added a fourth, leaving the visitors with a mountain to climb before the interval.

Williams came close to completing his hat-trick before the break, while Jones also went narrowly wide as the home side threatened to extend their advantage further.

The contest was more evenly balanced after the restart, but Dolgellau eventually added a fifth goal in the 64th minute. Gethin Evans opened his account for the season, finishing well after excellent work from Roberts and Osian Morris.

To their credit, Llanrhaeadr refused to throw in the towel and stemmed Dolgellau's momentum during the closing stages. They were rewarded five minutes from time when Joshua Bowen netted a well-taken consolation goal.

Dolgellau manager Rob Evans said: "It was a good performance against a good side. We're really happy with the win and we're always grateful to our supporters, who back us all the way."

Elsewhere, leaders Queens Park maintained their perfect start to the season with a comfortable 4-1 victory at Llangollen Town. Ethan Simpson, Matthew Worrall, Daniel Parry and Nicky Williams were all on target as they made it five wins from five.

Penycae remain second after a 3-1 home win over Rhos Aelwyd. Goals from Thomos Edwards, Zac Davies and Jordan Ellis put the hosts three up before Roman Durnell pulled one back on the hour. Any hopes of a comeback, however, were quickly extinguished.

Cefn Albion also collected three points as goals from Calum Butler and Dion Gibbins secured a 2-1 victory over Corwen, whose reply came through Lewis Wills.
