DOLGELLAU left it late to claim a deserved 1-0 victory at Rhos Aelwyd in the Lock Stock Ardal North East on Saturday.

Played on a hard, dry surface, clear-cut chances were at a premium during a scrappy first half as both sides struggled to find any rhythm.

The visitors came closest to breaking the deadlock when Gerwyn Williams struck the post following a well-worked move, while a handful of crosses and set-pieces provided the only other moments of note.

Dolgellau emerged with far greater intent after the break and dominated proceedings, repeatedly testing Rhos goalkeeper Daniel Roberts, who produced a string of outstanding saves.

Roberts denied Harri Davies, Jamie Jones, Williams, Osian Morris and Paul Lewis as Dolgellau piled on the pressure in search of a winner.

The hosts looked set to hold on for a point, although Morris was inches away from capitalising on a rare error by Roberts, who spilled a cross at the striker's feet before a recovering defender prevented what seemed a certain goal.

Just when it appeared Dolgellau would be frustrated, Lewis delivered the decisive moment. Lewis helped switch play before Ioan Roberts picked out the forward with a superb pass into the right side of the penalty area. Lewis stretched to reach the ball and guided a looping header over the goalkeeper and into the far corner.

There was still time for one final spell of pressure, but Dolgellau defended resolutely to secure all three points.

Manager Rob Evans said: "A difficult place to come, but we were the better team on the day. It was a pleasure to see the team pushing for the winner and they deserved it."

Elsewhere, Bow Street suffered their first league defeat of the season as substitute Thomas Edwards converted a late penalty to earn Penycae a victory at Cae Piod.

Leaders Queens Park maintained their perfect start with a 4-2 win over Builth Wells, while second-placed Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant cruised to a 5-0 success against Carno.

Knighton Town defeated Kerry 2-1, Cefn Albion won 4-2 at Radnor Valley and Corwen edged Llanfair United 3-2 in another closely contested encounter.
