NEWCASTLE Emlyn went two points clear at the top of the Costcutter Ceredigion League division one as they accounted for Aberporth 4-3 in a hard fought match at Parc Emlyn.

The Reds, who were edged out by Cardigan in the title race last term, were indebted to midfielder Gethin Harries for scoring two crucial goals, with the visitors still well in the game.

Further strikes from front runner Peter Almond and Jake Harries killed the game off to sew up the three points for Emlyn.

St Dogmaels were in action at Felinfach with six key players missing, but they were well worth their 5-3 win - although they will have been concerned by sloppy defending at times.

Front runner Trefor Woodgate claimed a hat-trick to cap a fine all round display and midfielder Adam Williams bagged a brace. On target for the Milkmen were Kieron Boyes who netted twice and Gareth Evans.

It is now over 30 years since Cilgerran last played in the first division, but on current form they are looking a decent bet to make a long awaited return. Neil Morgan and his men overtook previous leaders Maesglas by accounting for Llandysul Reserves by 4-1 at Parc y Dre. Morgan, who has recruited well with a mix of youth and experience, was again well served by former Magpies teenage striker Louis Harding, who pounced for the opening goal.

There was a goal also for former Saints frontrunner Dan Bellis, and further goals by experienced raider Johnny James and Craig Poole sealed the win. Lampeter Reserves moved up to fifth place in division two after they disposed of town rivals SDUC by 5-0.

Gethin Hunter provided two of the goals for his side and there was also one apiece for Luke Hunter, Nathan Hunter and Scott Davies.
