BOW STREET emphatically resumed their Spar Mid Wales League campaign with a stunning 8-1 win over Kerry to move them up to seventh place in division one, with several games in hand.

In their first league match of 2018, the Magpies dominated large parts of the opening half, and were 2-0 up at half-time following two Mark Gornall penalties.

Kerry struck back in the very first minute of the second period through Matt Mumford, but Bow Street soon regained control and scored a further six goals.

Llion Jenkins scored two excellent goals, followed by Mark Gornall’s third and one from Tom Evans - and two from returning substitute Ifan Burrell completed the rout.

Kerry, to their credit, battled to the end and home keeper Ben Willis was forced into making two excellent saves, before leaving the field with a slight injury.

His replacement was defender Tomos Wyn Roberts, who also made a great save to deny the visitors, who remain fourth-from-bottom in the league standings.

Aberaeron saw off a spirited effort from Borth United as first half goals from Mattie Davies and Chris Wilkins earned them a 2-0 home win in the Ceredigion derby.

Early exchanges were relatively even as both sides created chances, but when the Borth defence failed to clear a corner kick on 25 minutes the prolific Davies curled the ball beyond keeper Alex Pennock.

The home side then doubled their lead when Chris Wilkins found the back of the net with a header from a corner kick with only five minutes of the half remaining.

Borth opened the second half with good intentions, and they were unlucky to see Clive Morgan’s shot bounce to safety off the post, and Ryan Edwards’s low shot go inches wide, but a solid Aberaeron defence was in no mood to relinquish their 2-0 lead, which they held until full-time.

Llandrindod Wells made it back to back wins in division one with a comfortable 3-0 success at bottom-of-the-table Machynlleth.

On a difficult playing surface, an own goal gave the Spa men an early lead and Robbie Nicholls and Kieran McCarley added to the tally before half-time.

There were no second half goals although Llandrindod had several more chances, while Machynlleth never really threatened.

Knighton Town slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Berriew, who have reeled off three straight league wins since turning their direction to youth.

Josh Morgan scored in the first half, which what was a scrappy effort from Knighton’s point of view.

Connor Bird should have levelled before half-time but fired wide from the penalty spot after Chris Roff was taken out.

Knighton dominated possession second half, but the ball just would not sit for them in front of goal, while Berriew also defended well.

Radnor Valley also suffered an odd goal defeat when they went down 2-1 at home against high flying Llanrhaeadr.

The visitors were on the front foot from the start and Iwan Matthews gave them an early lead.

It was all Llanrhaeadr for the opening half hour, but Radnor levelled with Oliver Jones netting from 25 yards on the counter attack.

That gave Radnor belief and there were chances at each end, before Matthews won it for the Tanat Valley side, scrambling home their winner in the closing minutes.

Tywyn/Bryncrug meanwhile succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Llanfair United.

After a goalless first half, the game came to life when Llanfair took the lead through Karl Seliaerts.

On 65 minutes Tywyn were then reduced to 10 men, but they equalised minutes later through Mark Edmondson, only for Llanfair to take the lead again through Josh Astley.

In the final 15 minutes, Llanfair were reduced to 10 men when Phil Hughes was sent off, but the visitors held firm to win.

Llanidloes Town meanwhile consolidated third spot in division one with a 2-0 win at Churchstoke, courtesy of goals in each half from Joe Evans and Rhys Evans.

Adam Davies meanwhile scored a late equaliser as leaders Welshpool Town snatched a 1-1 draw with Carno, who had opened the scoring through Andy Evans.
