BALA Town netted four extra-time goals to finally end the challenge of battling Welsh League outfit Haverfordwest County and book a place in the last eight of the JD Welsh Cup.

The Lakesiders left it late, before goals from Steve Tames, Henry Jones, Chris Venables and Kieran Smith sealed the victory, after the match had finished goalless after 90 minutes.

The Bluebirds were difficult to break down and proved a real threat on the counter-attack, and the game was very open in the opening half an hour.

Bala’s Sean Smith went close when he got on the end of Andy Burns’ delivery, and Mike Hayes fired just wide of the upright from close range from Henry Jones’ strong ball into the area.At the other end, Danny Williams got on the end of a deep free-kick but saw his chance go wid, but Bala’s Chris Venables then forced a save from the keeper with a diving header.

As Bala got on top, Kieran Smith saw a low 25 yard strike saw saved by Kyle Stuart, who also denied Steven Tames after some great play through midfield by Jones and Venables.

Before the break, Smith fired over from 12 yards, before a huge opportunity fell to Mike Hayes, who headed over the crossbar from close range.

Haverfordwest came into the game much more in the second half and Elliott Scotcher fired over, before two big Blues chances around the hour.

A Kaid Mohamed ball in was inches away from a connection from Williams, and Ben Fawcett fired in a quick shot, which was very narrowly wide.

A shot by Williams also soared high over the bar from 25 yards, but at the other end Hayes saw his close-range strike blocked and Anthony Miley’s follow-up was hacked off the line.

Jones and Sean Smith also had half chances and Venables connected with Miley’s header across goal, but it flew over, sending the game to extra time.

The deadlock was finally broken five minutes into the extra period, as Sean Pemberton was adjudged to have handled in the box, and Steve Tames crashed the penalty in emphatically.

Two minutes later, Bala doubled their advantage as Jones picked up the ball and rocketed the ball into the far roof of the net from around 15 yards.

It was 3-0 on 101 minutes as a stunning move was swung into the area for Venables to score at the back post, and Kieran Smith dispatched Bala’s fourth at the end of the first period, following a ball in from the right.
