PENRHYNDEUDRAETH netted three goals in around a quarter-of-an-hour before half-time, after having gone behind early on, to add Glan Conwy to their list of Welsh Alliance division one conquests.

Andrew Jones’s second-from-top title contenders emerged as 4-1 winners, to complete a hat-trick over the basement outfit, having achieved home-and-away wins in the league, and the Cookson Cup.

A misdirected header from a corner resulted in an own goal after six minutes, and it took until the 27th minute to regain parity, with Steve Jones’s equaliser.

The outcome of the match was determined, in effect, by that double whammy of goals close to the interval, when Tom Smith scored on 40 minutes and Neil Thomas on 45, to raise Penrhyn’s lead to 3-1.

The fourth goal, from Smith again in the early minutes of the second half, hinted at lots more to follow, but Glan Conwy’s keeper Aaron Peel became a dominant figure, as he leapt into a series of fine saves.

Barmouth and Dyffryn United stretched high-flying Llandudno Junction all the way before succumbing to a deciding goal in stoppage-time that meant a 2-1 defeat.

With the teams level at 1-1 in the Wern Mynach skirmish, and striving to find the winner, it was Junction’s Ashley Seddon who applied the vital finish at the death.

A frantic scramble had ensued in Barmouth’s goal area and keeper Adam Walters – later acclaimed as the hosts’ man of the match – executed a block, only for the ball to run to Seddon just five yards out.

The first half was goalless and 72 minutes had elapsed before Barmouth fell behind to Joel Hewitt’s penalty, following a foul - but that was quickly followed within three minutes by the equaliser.

Shane Jones, back in action after an extended absence, netted an 18-yarder that amounted to his 101st goal for the club.

Pwllheli’s post-Christmas and New Year sequence of three consecutive wins was ended by a 4-1 defeat at St Asaph City.

Within half-an-hour Pwllheli had found themselves three goals down, after netted efforts by Jake Walker on 10 minutes, Andy Bell on 21 and Walker again on 32.

Mark Jones replied on 40 minutes, but hopes of closing up further were dashed by a killer fourth goal from Carl Murray, just four minutes from the final whistle.

Glantraeth tightened their grip on top spot by registering yet another win – their 13th in 17 outings – this time over Abergele Town by a convincing 4-0 margin.

Corrig McGonigle scored all the goals, netting after 31, 42, 71 and 82 minutes, to raise his tally purely in the league to 24.

Trearddur Bay United banked points from a 2-1 win over Greenfield, having gone two goals ahead through Rhys Brown on 12 minutes and Asa Thomas on 39, before Shaun Beck replied on 46.

Llanrug United beat Llanrwst United 3-1 thanks to Luke Phillips netting on 18 minutes and Jonathan Sadler on 24 and 47, before the visitors clawed one back through Zac Williams on 50.

Llandyrnog United and Llanberis meanwhile drew 2-2, with home goals from Stuart Vernon on four minutes and Mike Lundstrom on 87 as against Frazer Williams on 39 and Guto Llewelyn on 78.
