Bala Town 5 Flint Town United 0
FULL TIME
BALA ended their recent run of poor performances and results with a resounding win and quality goals against second-from-bottom Flint.
The Lakesiders took a one-goal lead into the break after dominating and creating plenty of chances.
They had a goal ruled out on 18 minutes, but disappointment turned to joy when Lassana Mendes cut inside on the left hand side to bend a worldie into the top right hand corner.
A one goal lead is always a precarious one but Colin Caton’s men found their goalscoring boots in the second stanza.
The half was only three minutes old when Antony Kay headed in at the far corner following a corner.
The same man had a shot blocked a few minutes later as the hosts piled on the pressure before Venables had a goal ruled out for offside.
But he wasn’t to be denied moments later, rifling the ball home from the edge of the area, off the bar and in.
It was all Bala but Rob Hughes nearly pulled one back for Flint, slicing a volley wide on 70 minutes.
Bala, who held a minute’s silence before the match in memory of goalkeeper Alex Ramsay’s father, Callie, who passed away suddenly this week, pulled further ahead on 74 minutes and it was another cracker.
After wonder strikes by Mendes and Venables, Steven Leslie stepped up to the plate with a sweetly-struck long ranger into the top corner.
Venables grabbed his second of the evening on 83 minutes, a tap-in from the captain this time before substitute Henry Jones scuffed an effort into the keeper’s hands.
A five star performance from The Lakesiders to bring Phase 1 to a close.
Bala: Harri Lloyd, Sean Smith, Jonny Spittle, Anthony Stephens, Ollie Shannon, Lassana Mendes, Antony Kay, Steve Leslie, Jack Mackreth, Will Evans, Chris Venables. Subs: Henry Jones, Kieran Smith, Shaun Kelly, Liam Davies, Ryan Pryce
