LLANIDLOES Town cruised into the second round of the Spar Mid Wales League Cup after four first half goals put them on course for a 6-2 passage at Newbridge last weekend.

After missed opportunities proved costly in the JD Welsh Cup loss at Buckley Town the week before, the Daffs were in no mood to be so charitable against division two opposition.

Four goals to the good at the break, boss Hugh Clarke was able to ring the changes in the second period, which saw a first team debut for 17-year-old Callum Jones.

The winger made his mark by getting on the scoresheet, and was also denied by the woodwork, while there was also a first goal for the club for Ryan Biggs.

"We shifted the ball about well, looked sharp and quick, and played some good football," said Clarke.

"As well as the six goals, I think we must have hit the bar and post four times. Newbridge battled hard, but there is a big gulf between the first and second divisions.

"The second half was the ideal chance to bring on some lads off the bench, and Callum did not look out of place."

Llani never looked back after going two goals up after 10 minutes through Matthew Savage’s header and George Clarke, before adding a third through Rhys Evans.

Clarke got his second of the game, before Newbridge grabbed a couple of replies after the interval through Ollie Wood and Aeron Powell.

But there was no way back for the home side as Llani struck twice more through debutant Jones and Biggs who, having scored an own goal the week before, found the net at the right end with his first goal for the club.

The Daffs now turn their thoughts to the FAW Trophy on Saturday with a third round tie at home to second division Llansantffraid Village (2.30pm).
