INJURY problems continue to mount for Llanidloes Town as they look to keep up the pressure on the Spar Mid Wales League division one frontrunners in this Saturday’s trip to to take on basement outfit Machynlleth (2.30pm).
Like the majority of the league, their home clash with Carno was called off last weekend due to a snowbound Victoria Avenue pitch - leaving the Daffs still with 10 league matches to play.
Of concern are the growing number of injures, with goalkeeper Aaron Warrick the latest to join the casualty list after damaging shoulder ligaments in their 2-0 quarter-final win at Llangedwyn in the Montgomeryshire Challenge Cup.
Goals from George Clarke and Rhys Evans saw them into the last four.
Warrick will be replaced in goal by Kris Williams for the visit to Mach, and joins Harri Clarke, Josh Evans and Josh Hartrick as long term injury worries.
Josh Matthews, who was unable to commit fully to the club, has switched back to Carno, while new signing Jordan Jones is unavailable on Saturday.
“We’ve got a lot of senior players out which is making life a bit of a struggle, but we’ve got to go with what we’ve got, and it will give the fringe players a chance,” said manager Hugh Clarke.
“We’ve got Mach on Saturday, and Kerry the week after, and these are the games we have to win if we’re going to finish there or thereabouts this season.”
There was no chance of last weekend’s home clash with Carno going ahead, with the game called off on Friday with several inches of snow on the pitch.
Llanidloes remain eight points adrift of leaders Welshpool Town with two games in hand, but are four points behind second-placed side Llanrhaeadr, who have played three games fewer.
Llanidloes had consolidated third spot in the Spar Mid Wales League division one with a 2-0 win at Churchstoke a fortnight ago, courtesy of goals in each half by Joe Evans and Rhys Evans.
“Llanrhaeadr are looking strong, but there is still a third of the season to go, and we’ve got to try and win as many games as we can,” said manager Clarke.
“We finished fifth last season, and we want to keep improving We’ve got 10 games left, and seven of those are against teams in the lower half of the table, so there is still a long way to go.”
“We missed so many chances against Churchstoke, which has been the story of the season, but the important thing was we came away with three points.
“We’ve got a few injuries, but we can take confidence from the way we passed the ball in the second half.”
Machynlleth, meanwhile remain rock bottom, with just one win in 20 outings, after a 3-0 defeat to Llandrindod Wells a fortnight ago.
