PWLLHELI enjoyed their biggest win of the season in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division one as they registered an excellent 8-3 win over Glan Conwy - with Mark Jones scoring four times to take his tally to 20 goals for the season.
Kyle Goodfellow opened the scoring on 10 minutes, but Bulgarian Erhan Hynsmen levelled matters on 20.
Further goals followed at both ends, with Pwllheli benefiting through Lee Fletcher on 29 minutes and Mark Jones on 30 and 37, as against home goals by Charlie Jones on 35 and Hynsmen with his second on 40.
Pwllheli, after being 4-3 ahead at the interval, came into their own in the second half to add four more goals thanks to Mark Jones on 51 and 69 minutes and Jamie Underwood on 81 and 83.
Meanwhile Barmouth and Dyffryn United remained in contention for 70 minutes at Welsh Alliance division one title favourites Glantraeth, before being killed off by a third goal from the hosts.
Barmouth’s first setback came on 30 minutes, when ex-Pwllheli forward Mark Bridge scored the opener with a cross-shot from an angle on the right, which beat keeper Adam Walters.
A second goal on 36 minutes followed from Corrig McGonigle, who converted a penalty for a disputed foul by the grounded Walters.
Walters was shown the yellow card for that, and by the final whistle, the match official had booked nine players, four from Barmouth and five from Glantraeth.
Barmouth’s Rob Murfet made an exciting run to despatch a glorious 35-yarder into the net on 39 minutes, and an absorbing second half developed after that.
Barmouth retained the hope of gaining something until 20 minutes left, when Glantraeth’s Carwyn Jones met a right-wing cross to propel his winning header.
Nantlle Vale and Llandyrnog United played out an entertaining 3-3 draw at the Penygroes club’s Maes Dulyn ground, where the rivals were level at 1-1 at half-time.
On target for Nantlle were Dylan Williams after 14 and 75 and Irfon Hughes after 84, whereas Llandyrnog got goals through Luke Appleby on 42, Mark Roberts on 52 and Simon Hulse on 82.
• In midweek, Pwllheli had lost 3-2 at home to Nantlle Vale, despite goals from Kyle Goodfellow and Mark Jones. The visitors secured the points through goals by Sion Jones, Rob Daniels and Dylan Williams.
