JORDAN Evans’ excellent strike ensured that Bala Town exacted sweet revenge for their 4-0 defeat to Carmarthen at Maes Tegid, as Colin Caton’s men registered a third successive league win.
Evans produced the game’s real moment of quality on 43 minutes when, picking the ball up 30 yards from goal, he smashed a left-footed drive goalwards.
Home keeper Lee Idzi got a hand to it, but couldn’t keep it out, and the Lakesiders kept things tight in the second half to maintain a clean sheet at Richmond Park.
“We showed plenty of endeavour and fight,” said Caton, who will be looking for his side to reclaim a top six position against Llandudno at home on Friday.
“They have come out fighting for their lives, and we knew that if we did not match their fight we would get beaten.
“The lads have done really well, I thought we could have been a bit sharper and killed the game off with that final pass to win it, but it was a great result.”
Bala had the early pressure, but it was the hosts that had the first real chance, as a cross to the back post was met by Kieran Lewis, but he shot at Ashley Morris.
Ian Sheridan curled a shot just wide for Bala, but at the other end Kosta Georgievsky sent a teasing cross into the penalty box, but no one was there to meet it.
The Lakesiders began to exert more pressure, and Jordan Evans forced Lee Idzi into a good save from a free kick, before Stuart Jones headed against the bar, and wide from another Evans free kick.
Evans then broke the deadlock with a terrific strike that Idzi couldn’t keep out, and Bala went into the break one goal up.
Both sides missed a couple of good chances in the second half, as Sheridan failed to convert a Chris Venables cross from close range, as well as having another opportunity saved by the keeper.
For Carmarthen, Georgievsky took down a great long pass from Dave Vincent but couldn’t direct his shot goalwards, while Bala stopper Morris made a good stop from Kyle Bassett, following some good interplay from the home side.
Liam Griffiths had one final chance late on for the hosts, but his overhead kick went over the top as the Lakesiders held on to record their third win in a row.
