PORTHMADOG were denied a share of the spoils as Flint Town scored two last-gasp goals to snatch all three league points in a 3-1 win at the Traeth.

With the match heading for a draw, Paul McManus powered in a 25-yard free-kick to make it 2-1, and deep into stoppage time, Joe Palmer’s goal sealed the away win.

Early chances saw Jamie McDaid’s shot skim the far post, and he then set up Cai Jones, whose header from a good position sailed wide.

At the other end Jack Abrahams was denied by debutant keeper Paul Whitfield, who was providing cover for the unwell Richard Harvey.

On 27 minutes, however, Kyle Smith rifled Flint ahead with a low shot, following a half clearance from a corner.

Just on half time, Smith fired against the post, and midway through the second half McManus also volleyed wide from 16 yards out.

When Porth enjoyed their purple patch, Griff Williams propelled a good-looking free-kick that was grabbed by Flint’s Ross Dolton, and then on 68 minutes a penalty award gave the home side their chance to equalise.

When Iwan Lewis was fouled in the penalty box, referee Mike Gray pointed to the spot, but McDaid steered his effort too close to Dolton, who made a crucial save.

Porth did draw level on 78 minutes, however, when Josh Davies netted with his first touch, after being called on as a sub – his glancing header finding the net from Julian Williams’s left cross.

Big trouble for the hosts came right at the end though, with McManus slamming home a 90th minute free-kick direct into the bulging net, followed – as Porthmadog pressed upfield – by Flint’s breakaway third goal.

Iddon Price was left as Porth’s solitary defender as the hosts deployed everyone else into attack, searching for the equaliser, but Flint broke away and raced clear - and the ensuing two-against-one situation ended with Palmer scoring from close range.
