PENRHYNCOCH manager Gari Lewis has warned his side to be on their guard when they tackle basement strugglers FC Queens Park in another vital Huws Gray Cymru Alliance outing at Cae Baker this Saturday (ko 2.30pm).

The Wrexham side arrive on the back of a wretched run of form that has seen them slip to second bottom in the table, with just one win in 20 league outings.

But Lewis will be taking nothing for granted as he looks for the Roosters to continue their push towards safety following their 2-2 draw with Caersws in their last action a week ago.

After last Saturday’s home clash with Porthmadog succumbed to a waterlogged pitch, Penrhyn remain eight points above the bottom three, but still with work to do to if they are ensure they remain in the division for next season.

"Queens Park have had a tough season, it’s not gone how they would have wanted, but they are a proud club, and there is plenty of fight in them," said Lewis.

"They are a wounded animal, they will be dangerous, so we have to make sure we go into the game with the right attitude, just as if we are playing one of the top sides. They will be coming here thinking it’s a chance for them to sneak a win, so we have to prepare for a battle and not take our foot off the pedal."

Captain Owain James is a doubt with a chest infection, but the fit again Antonio Corbisiero is ready to start.

As well as seven league games remaining, the Roosters also have a trip to Gresford Athletic in the quarter-final of the Huws Gray Cup on Easter Monday.Meanwhile Penrhyncoch boss Gari Lewis felt that his side’s 2-2 draw with basement rivals Caersws was a fair result at Cae Baker last Wednesday evening. The Roosters had led 2-0 just past the half hour mark with goals from Stef Davies and Jonathan Evans, but the Bluebirds hit back to earn parity, courtesy of Tom Bowen and former Penrhyn player Luke Sherbon.Having been two goals ahead following such a fine start, there would have been an air of disappointment on the part of the hosts. But the result keeps them eight points clear of the Bluebirds who, with three games in hand, remain in the third basement position."Overall it was a fair result, and it was important we didn’t lose," said Lewis."I know it’s a cliche, but it was a game of two halves. We were on top in the first, went 2-0 up and had we gone into half time with a two goal lead, then it may have been different."But we conceded a soft free kick. It was a wonderful strike, and it gave them a huge lift before half time."They put us under pressure in the second half, caused us a lot of problems, and in the end it was a fair result between two sides who gave it everything."Click on link below for full report.
