LLANYSTUMDWY completed a treble over familiar foes Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs Reserves in Gwynedd League circles, with their latest win over their rivals being in the Safeflue Shield.
The first round derby at Dwyfor Park proved to be a closely contested affair, with the home side squeezing home for a 3-2 win, with Sion Parry sealing the win by completing his hat-trick four minutes from the end.
Parry had punished Blaenau twice earlier, with goals on 35 and 38 minutes, whereas the visitors from Cae Clyd had kept in contention through the netted goals of youngster Cai Henshaw on 26 and 62 minutes.
Harlech Town had good reason to feel pleased with themselves after registering a convincing 4-0 win over Waunfawr in the Shield, to end a bleak sequence of 13 matches without a win.
Welcome Christmas cheer at the Beach Road ground was provided by second half doubles by Joe Soar, netting on 55 and 78 minutes, and Darren Parry on 67 and 70.
Nefyn United, whose active interest in the Meditel Cup was ended the previous Saturday, suffered a double whammy, when eliminated from the Shield in a 6-3 home defeat by Aberffraw.
The Jones boys were on target for Nefyn, with Dafydd finding the net after 36 minutes and Ifan scoring after 66 and 79, but the home team were still well short.
Aberffraw rattled in their half dozen through Richard Roberts’s hat-trick on 10, 42 and 70 minutes, an own-goal by the home side’s Gwion Roberts on 27 and singles by Adam Hallibon on 81 and Carwyn Roberts on 88.
Bro Goronwy beat Menai Bridge Tigers 2-0, thanks to Andy Williams striking on 15 and 40 minutes, while Bethesda Athletic’s tie with the holders Bontnewydd was postponed in circumstances that are being investigated by the league.
The only Gwynedd League fixture scheduled, between Talysarn Celts and Beaumaris Town, was also off due to a waterlogged pitch.
