LLANIDLOES Town hit the goal trail as they dispatched hosts Tywyn Bryncrug 6-1, to continue their rise in the Spar Mid Wales League division one with their biggest win of the season.

A Steve Jones strike had earned the Daffs parity at the break, before a stirring second half performance produced further goals from Rhys D Evans, George Clarke, Matthew Savage, Harri Clarke and Josh Matthews.

After their 3-1 win over Montgomery Town eight days earlier, it was another satisfying win for Llanidloes manager Hugh Clarke, who is hoping that his side have now turned a corner.

“We were creating chances earlier in the season, and not taking them, but the lads are learning and were a lot more clinical,” said Daffs boss Clarke.

“It was a good team performance overall, everyone chipped in with goals, and it will give the lads plenty of confidence going to the next game.

“I was a bit disappointed with the goal we conceded, we’ll be working on keeping clean sheets in training, but you can’t grumble too much when you score six goals away from home.

“We’re on a good little run now, and we’ve got players fighting for their places, which is really good to see.”

Tywyn, despite their lowly position, had beaten a depleted Knighton 6-0 at home a fortnight earlier, and they caught their visitors cold when, from a quickly taken throw-in, they broke down the left and crossed for Aled Jones to tap home the first goal.

Llanidloes came back well, however, and Steve Jones levelled at the break when his 20-yard cross-shot drifted into the back of the net at the far post.

Five goals then followed in a second half deluge, with several players making notable contributions in what was an emphatic and impressive victory.

Rhys D Evans continued his good scoring form when heading in a fine cross from Joe Evans, while substitute George Clarke tapped in a third goal.

Matthew Savage and Harri Clarke, with a header from a Josh Evans cross, also found the net, before substituite Josh Matthews completed the scoring for the Daffs with a decent finish.

Despite the win, the Daffs stayed ninth in the table, but are now within range of several sides above them as they look to keep momentum at home to Llandrindod Wells on Saturday.

In the only other division one match, Welshpool Town beat fellow strugglers Montgomery 2-1 last Friday.

Connor Stacey fired Monty ahead, but the Lilywhites levelled matters through Ieuan Morgan Thomas, and Christian Webster bagged their winning goal 10 minutes from the end.
