LLANIDLOES Town clinched their place in the last 32 of the FAW Trophy with a 4-1 win against Llansantffraid Village at rainswept Victoria Avenue.

Two goals from Ceorge Clarke, along with Rhys Evans and a super strike by Richie Evans, secured a deserved win.

The Daffs have been drawn at home in the fourth round to Llanrug United, who currently lie fourth in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division one.

“We played very well again, which was very pleasing considering the conditions, and the fact that we had a few players missing,” said the Spar League manager of the month Hugh Clarke.

“Once we got the first goal we never looked back. We shifted the ball around well, looked strong and physical, and we had too much energy for them.

“It was disappointing to leak a goal at the end, but the tie was won by then.”

Llansantffraid held their own for the first 15 minutes, but the Daffs were in the ascendancy once George Clarke had headed the first division hosts in front, from a Matthew Savage corner.

Rhys Evans doubled the lead for the Daffs, but keeper Aaron Warrick was called into action with a couple of saves in the first half as the Saints hit back.

A third goal, however, arrived just after half time, with Richie Evans adding another spectacular strike to his collection when cutting in from the left before crashing his shot into the top corner.

The tie was effectively over as George Clarke notched his second goal, following up to convert a rebound after a shot from Richie Evans had been fumbled.

Rob Carruthers pulled one back, but it was too little too late and victory puts Llanidloes in good heart for Saturday’s top of the table clash at Welshpool.

The Daffs, who are hoping to be near to full strength, are two points adrift of their hosts, but with a game in hand.

Bow Street were unable to stand in the way of Llanfair United as the hosts booked a place in round four with a battling 2-1 win horrendous conditions.

The visitors took the lead after 20 minutes through debutant Rhun Garner, who has joined from Penrhyncoch, but Mark Griffiths equalised for the home side just before the interval.

Bow Street battled well in the second half, but Paul Griffiths scored the winner late on, to put Llanfair through.

Knighton beat Llanrhaeadr Ym Mochnant 3-1, with goals from Sam Williams and Mark Jones, with a brace.

Khyam Wyton had pulled it back to 2-1, but the visiting side had Tom Bailey sent off just before the interval.

Berriew also marched into the last 32 with a 2-0 win at Radnor Valley, where goals in each half from Matt Mumford and Karl Seliaerts secured progress.
