LLANIDLOES Town marched on in the JD Welsh Cup as they notched a closely-fought 1-0 win at Welsh Alliance division two side Barmouth and Dyffryn United.
A tight encounter at Wern Mynach was settled two minutes into the second half, when Connor Bird met a cross from the left and fired past keeper Alex Evans.
Just a minute before that, Barmouth’s Billy Jones had the chance to have made a telling impact at the other end, but steered his attempt wide of the visitors’ target.
In an absorbing but goalless opening half, the hosts’ Billy Jones dragged wide from 15 yards, after latching on to a pass from Ieuan Brooks, whilst the Daffs had seen a goal hashly disallowed for offside.
Llanidloes set the pace initially in the second half, forcing a series of corners before Bird broke the deadlock, but although Barmouth stepped up the tempo, the vital equaliser proved to be beyond them.
Penparcau are also in the hat for the next round of the national competition after they beat Mid Wales League division one side Radnor Valley 4-2 away from home.
Ryan Edwards scored twice, with Michael Gornall and Andrew Gittins also scoring as the division two high-flyers made it nine wins from nine. Jack Williams and Ieuan Price netted for Radnor.
Jamie Hyne fired a hat-trick as Caersws made it through to the next round with a 5-3 victory on Friday night at home to Dolgellau, who had scored through Charlie Owen, with a brace, and Jake Jones.
After falling behind, the Bluebirds hit back with an Elliot Jones free kick from the edge of the box, and a great finish by Jamie Hyne, after being played in by Mark Edmondson, then put the hosts 2-1 ahead.
Either side of the interval Nashawn Blake netted from close range following a corner, and Jamie Hyne scored his second from close range - and Hyne completed his hat-trick with a fantastic header back across goal from a Paul Grant free kick.
Llandrindod Wells hit back from being two goals down to beat Carno 5-2, after the visitors took an early lead through an own goal and an Andy Evans effort.
Goals from Ash Jones and Jack Evans and Keiran McCarley put the hosts in front at the interval, before a penalty from Michael Collister, after Robbie Nicholls was taken out by the keeper, and player-manager Gareth Jones sealed the win.
Montgomery Town made progress as goals from Jack Williams and man of the match Glyn Coney sealed a scrappy 2-1 extra-time win over Berriew, who had scored their goal through Harry Watkins.
Waterloo Rovers beat Welshpool Town 5-4 in their derby showdown, with Tommy Ellis, Andrew Gwilt, Ryan Ellis, Nathan James and Callum Foulkes all scoring. Will Thomas, with a brace, and Ian Probert were on target for the Town.
Four Crosses marched on as an early goal from Ben Simms and two from Gareth Jones sealed a 3-1 win over Rhayader, who had scored through Jamie Evans.
