MANAGER Hugh Clarke admitted Llanidloes Town were below their best, despite maintaining their resurgence in the Spar Mid Wales Division One with a win 2-1 at Machynlleth.
After falling behind in the first real attack of the second half, the Daffs hit back with George Clarke levelling and Rhys Evans firing a winner seven minutes from time.
Victory at sun-drenched Mach put Llani up to sixth place, and well positioned for a top four finish, with five games still remaining as they prepared to host Llanrhaeadr in midweek.
“It was three points against Mach, but it was probably our worst performance for some time,” said Clarke.
“We have played better, and not come away with anything, so it evens itself out.
“We were poor all over, but it was another win and it keeps our run going. We had a good spell in the first half, got some good balls into the box, but not enough.
“We were just happy to come away with the points.”
Rhys Evans spurned a headed opportunity in the first half, before Machynlleth took the lead at the start of the second half, courtesy of an Alex Davies effort.
Llani responded well and were level when George Clarke latched onto a long ball upfield from keeper Aaron Warrick before rounding the keeper, and he then turned provider for Evans to slot in the winner.
The finish of the game was quite feisty as tempers boiled over in the sunshine, and Mach finished with 10 men after a reckless tackle.
Carno came away from second-placed Berriew’s Talbot Field with a 2-1 win, to keep alive hopes of achieving runners-up spot.
After 15 minutes Jordan Jones slipped in Richie Evans, and his powerful shot went through the hands of the Berriew goalkeeper for the opening goal.
Berriew equalised 10 minutes later when keeper Kris Williams made a fantastic one on one save but the ball fell nicely to Matt Bumford, who fired into an empty net.
Carno’s Steve Jones fired over from distance and a well worked set-piece found Drew Reynolds, but his header went inches wide.
Five minutes before half time, however, Steve Jones chested the ball into the path of Richie Evans, and with time and space he fired home in the bottom corner.
The second half was a scrappy affair, with Jordan Jones firing across goal after a fine breakaway move, whilst Harry Holt fired just wide and Richie Evans dragged a shot off target after beating three defenders.
Kris Williams made one save to deny the hosts, but in the final 20 minutes Berriew resorted to long balls, as Carno held out to win.
Hay St Mary’s beat Bow Street 3-1 to leapfrog above the visitors into fourth spot, with all their goals coming late in the second period.
The Magpies took the lead around the hour as a Dean Evans shot across goal was well saved by Jordan Baker, but Tom Evans pounced to slot home the rebound.
The Saints changed to a more attacking formation and Rob Snedden had a few chances saved, before they equalised on 82 minutes.
Jack Biggs turned well, forcing the keeper to save with his foot, but Callum Maddy netted the rebound.
Three minutes later, Maddy turned provider when he found Ryan Davies with a 20 yard pass, and he turned the defender and chipped the ball over the goalkeeper.
Hay were putting a lot of pressure on the visitors in the last 10 minutes and wrapped up victory with a third goal on 88 minutes.
Maddy was again the provider, for Rob Snedden to run onto the through ball and lob the keeper for 3-1.
Llanrhaeadr came away with the points in a scrappy 2-1 win against Montgomery Town, courtesy of a penalty by Iain Edmunds and an Alex Hall effort, whilst Llandrindod Wells beat Tywyn/Bryncrug 2-1.
Meanwhile on Sunday, two goals from Joey Price earned Radnor Valley a 2-0 away win at Central Wales Cup finalists Aberaeron.SPAR MID WALES DIVISION TWOBORTH United denied Spar Mid Wales League division two leaders Kerry the title honours last weekend at a sun-drenched Dolforgan Park as the top two sides battled out a goalless draw.
The hosts still need one more point from their last two matches, away at form side Churchstoke and at home to Dyffryn Banw, to secure the league honours.
With just two points separating the two sides, a win for second-placed Borth could have moved them top in their penultimate game, to keep their own title bid alive.
A cagey start to the match saw both defences on top, and it took nearly 30 minutes play before the keepers were tested.
Borth custodian Sean Gates made two fantastic point-blank saves in the space of a minute from Hugh McGrath to prevent Kerry taking the lead, and although both teams tried hard to break the deadlock the score was still goalless at half time.
The glorious weather perhaps took its toll on the players as the second half progressed, yet Borth created a few openings with Ben Jones squaring the ball to Jamie Walker, and his rising shot whistled just inches over the Kerry crossbar.
Soon after a penetrating run from Liam Berner saw his rasping shot turned away for a corner by the home keeper, and as full time approached both teams seemed content to settle for a share of the spoils, which on balance of play seemed right.
Borth play their final league match of the season on Saturday at home to Dyffryn Banw, who beat Builth 4-0 last weekend.
Third-placed Churchstoke meanwhile moved within four points of Borth, with a game in hand, as they won 2-0 away against Penybont, courtesy of two goals from their top scorer, Max McLaughlin.
