LLANYSTUMDWY and their Gwynedd League opponents Felinheli agreed to switch venues, from the waterlogged Cae Seilo ground to the playable Dwyfor Park on Saturday afternoon, and they certainly did not regret having home advantage.
Aled Jones’s team ran out as convincing 6-3 winners in an action-packed encounter, with the outcome of the match being determined in effect in the first half, when they had opened up a 5-2 lead.
Doubles were scored for Llanystumdwy by Iwan Lloyd, after one and 26 minutes, and Sion Parry, on his return after a short spell with Porthmadog, on 15 and 85 minutes, with singles from Bradley Williams on 22 and Carwyn Edwards after 38.
Felinheli, who were third-placed in the table last season, and invariably are title contenders, had to be satisfied with three replies from Gwion Lloyd after 25 and 33 minutes and Ifan Emyr after 87 minutes.
Nefyn United could be well pleased with their endeavours in securing a point from a battling 1-1 away draw with the league leaders at that time, Bontnewydd.
Both goals were netted in the first quarter of the game, by the hosts’ Aled Hughes after three minutes and the visiting team’s Guto Roberts after 21 minutes.
Harlech Town, who had been hoping to register a rare win against fellow strugglers Beaumaris Town, had to call off the fixture, because of maintenance work at the Beach Road ground changing rooms.
Waunfawr leapfrogged into the second-from-top position, albeit on goal difference ahead of Bontnewydd, after their solid 5-0 win against Bangor University.
It was all done and dusted by half time, because of Waunfawr’s goals from Dylan Hughes on three and 21 minutes, Rhodri Owen on 40 minutes, Adam Jones on 42 and Ioan Gwynedd after 44 minutes.
Talysarn Celts beat Menai Bridge Tigers 4-1, thanks to Jac Jones’s hat-trick on 37, 40 and 65 minutes, plus Daniel Evans’s goal on 44, while new league leaders Bodedern Athletic made it 2-0 over Cemaes Bay, because of Ryan Taylor netting on 21 and Barry Jones on 85, from a penalty.
