BORTH United arrived with a depleted squad for their Boxing Day clash with Machynlleth at a grey Cae Plas, and the gloom deepened as they went down 7-2 in the MMP Mid Wales division two.

Drew Page scored twice in the first five minutes with some clinical finishing to put Mach in charge, but Borth were quick to respond as the outstanding Guto Huws weaved his way past the defence to fire a superb shot into the top corner.

Mach restored their two goal lead on 35 minutes when Joe Bell scored with a low shot into the bottom corner, but with five minutes of the half remaining Borth keeper Ben Willis was harshly sent off for allegedly bringing a Mach player down in the penalty area - and manager Ian Lewis was also sent off for protesting.

Joe Bell duly scored from the spot to give the hosts a handy 4-1 interval lead.

Drew Page increased the lead on the hour with a cool finish, but 10-man Borth refused to give up and they reduced the deficit on 70 minutes when Guto Huws threaded the ball into the path of Jay Walker to slide the ball passed the keeper.

In the final minutes, Drew Page scored twice to take his tally to five goals for the afternoon to complete a convincing win.

Leaders Montgomery maintained their lead at the top as goals from Jack Williams, Tom Evans and Scott Williams sealed a 3-1 win over Four Crosses, with Dave Hartshorn scoring on his debut for the visitors, who were reduced to 10 men.

Charlie Proctor and Andrew Gwilt scored twice as Waterloo Rovers hammered Abermule 7-1 at home, with Chris Proctor, Ollie Davies and Scott Holley also netting. Tommy Jones scored for Mule, who had Nick Mumby sent off.

Matty Tong scored twice as Hay St Marys beat Presteigne 5-2, with Jack Biggs, Brendan Hackett and Matt James also scoring, whilst Dave Thomas and Lyndon Jones netted goals as Newbridge notched a 2-1 win at home to Rhayader, who scored through Jamie Evans.

In a Boxing Day thriller at Cae Morfa ended honours even as Dyffryn Banw drew 4-4 with visiting Dolgellau Athletic.
