ABERYSTWYTH Town had a major setback in their bid to qualify for a top six position in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League as two goals from livewire Luke Borelli earned visitors Haverfordwest a New Year’s Day win at Park Avenue.

After holding the upper hand in the first half, the Bluebirds took a deserved lead on 44 minutes when Borelli smashed the ball into the net, after Ricky Watts had pulled the ball back.

The Seasiders stepped things up in the second half and with 22 minutes to go Craig Williams’ in-swinging corner was converted by skipper Stuart Jones to level the scores.

With only two minutes to go, however, disaster struck for Aber when the visitors were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area, and Borelli fired into the top right hand corner to secure the points.

After two successive home defeats, Ian Hughes’ men find themselves eighth in the table, three points adrift of sixth-placed Newtown, with two games to go until the league split. On Friday they welcome Port Talbot Town to Park Avenue, before then hosting Newtown on Saturday, 16 January.
