NEFYN United continued their reputation as knockout specialists by reaching the Gwynedd League’s Bob Owen Memorial Shield final, for their third showpiece date this season.
A 4-2 win over Beaumaris Town in Saturday’s semi-final sets up a showdown with Bro Goronwy on Friday, 18 May, at Caernarfon’s ground.
Chris Jones’ side first take on Gwalchmai at Porthmadog on Friday, 27 April in the Safeflue Shield final, and are also already through to the North Wales Coast Junior Cup final, where their opponents are to be decided.
Semi-final success in the Shield tie was achieved with goals from Tristan Parry on 35 and 82 minutes, Mark Jones with a rocket shot from 15 yards out on the hour and Ifan Jones on 69.
Beaumaris made a game of it by means of replies from Callum Hughes on 42 minutes and Robbie Jones on 90.
Bro Goronwy booked their passage to the final by winning 2-1 at Waunfaw, with goals from Jack Thomas on seven minutes and Sam Reagan on 79, whereas Meurig Parry replied on 45.
Gwalchmai moved into the Meditel Cup semi-finals as they came from behind twice to beat Menai Bridge Tigers 3-2. Craig Evans equalised on 29 minutes and Mark Griffiths on 40, followed by Corey Sinnott with the decider on 64, in response to Sam Roberts on 15 and Dave Baston on 30.
In the Gwynedd League, Llanystumdwy had a costly 3-1 defeat to fellow title contenders Holyhead Town at their Millbank ground, for their first defeat after six straight wins.
Asa Thomas netted on 64 and 82 minutes and Tom Hadley on 74, while Ricky Lavelle conceded an own-goal in Llanystumdwy’s favour on 69.
In midweek, Llanystumdwy beat Bontnwewydd 4-0 with goals by Darren Parry on 33 minutes, and Sion Parry with a hat-trick on 77, 88 and 90.
Llangoed won at Talysarn Celts 3-1 last weekend, thanks to Llion Roberts converting two penalties, on 50 and 70 minutes, plus an own-goal by Ethan Carter on 90, whereas the Thomas Usher netted for the home team from the penalty spot on 68 minutes.
In midweek, two goals from Glyn Jones, on 22 and 82 minutes, earned Talysarn a 2-0 win over Nefyn United.
Gwalchmai beat Holyhead Town 3-2 in midweek with goals by Craig Evans on 9 minutes and Corey Sinnott on 73 and 90. Holyhead led at one stage through goals by Tom Hadley on 2 minutes and Asa Thomas on 33.
