Nefyn United’s new joint player-managers Carl Jones and Steve Jones enjoyed a rousing start to their reign at Cae’r Delyn with a 3-0 win on the opening day of the Gwynedd League.
Bethesda Athletic, back after an absence of two seasons, fell behind to an early Dylan Sion Jones penalty, and Carl Jones weighed in with a second half brace.
Llanystumdwy, with four of last season’s under-16s team included, went down 5-0 in their opener at Bro Goronwy, with the hosts 2-0 up after 20 minutes, through Ryan Jones and Jac Thomas.
A penalty conceded just before half-time by Llanystumdwy’s Dafydd Jones, saw Jordan Edney make it 3-0 from the spot, and Thomas completed his hat-trick with goals on 47 on 80 minutes.New arrivals Trearddur Bay Bulls, with a name change from Bryngwran Bulls after the switch to the Holy Island ground, romped to a 7-0 win at Glantraeth. Gwynfor Owen netted a hat-trick, Justin Williams scored two goals, and Tom Hadley and Anton Williams hit singles.
Menai Bridge Tigers, last season’s champions, beat visitors Waunfawr 5-1, with the goals being scored by Lewis Mitchell Jones on 21 minutes, Callum Davidson on 30, Ryan Owen on 60, Jordan Pritchard on 69 and Dafydd Healy on 75, with Adam Lloyd replying on 79.
Bangor 1876, another debutant side, beat Ogwen Tigers, formerly known as Mynydd Tigers, 4-1 at Bethesda RFC, with Dylan Summer Jones scoring on 29 and 54 minutes, Jamie Petrie on 63 and Ben Lundstrom on 74, whereas Ogwen’s reply came from Kieron Bullock on 35.
Llangoed and Caergybi drew 2-2 after the home side had come from behind twice, through Jamie Roberts on 62 minutes and Wayne Thomas on 75, to scrub out the lead-takers by the visitors’ Dewi Thomas on 43 and Ian Williams on 67.
