ABERYSTWYTH Town’s new signing George Harry says he is keen to impress new manager Gavin Allen after agreeing to join the Seasiders for the new campaign.
The talented 21 year-old forward has had spells with Wrexham, Bangor City, Llandudno and most recently Newtown, before committing to the Park Avenue club.
A product of Wrexham’s youth set-up, he made his senior debut for the Dragons as a late substitute in their Boxing Day win over Southport in 2017. He joined Bangor City in July of the same year, making 22 appearances, and scoring three goals.
Twelve months after joining the Citizens, Harry joined Llandudno, and he made 32 appearances, scoring 13 goals, before moving on to Latham Park, where he made 18 appearances and scored two goals for Newtown.
“I was really impressed with everything that the manager has planned, and the way that he wants to play this season,” said Harry.
“He’s put together a very technical, young squad, who can hopefully go and compete with the best teams in this league. This is a massive club in the Cymru Premier, with great fans, who need something to cheer about, and hopefully myself and the lads can do that for them.
“I’ve missed the football massively, and can’t wait to get going and get out there.”New Seasiders boss Allen has wasted no time in building his squad for the new campaign, with several new additions being unveiled. entral midfielder Jamie Veale, who had left Merthyr Town at the end of last season, has also spoken of his delight at joining the Club.
The 23 year-old had joined Cardiff City at a young age and worked his way through their Academy. He signed a pro contract at the age of 17, and spent four years as a professional, captaining Cardiff City’s Under-23 team, before moving to his home Club Merthyr in January 2019.
He is a tenacious and creative player through the middle, who is quick to do his defensive duties when needed - and also has a knack for scoring some special strikes.
“I’m delighted to join Aberystwyth,” Veale said. “After a great chat with the manager, his ambition was clear, which was a key factor in me joining. I look forward to meeting all the boys and getting pre-season going, and hopefully achieving great things this coming season.”
Meanwhile central defender Sam Barnes has also joined the Club from Widnes, of the Northern Premier League.
The 28 year-old began his career with Liverpool Schoolboys, before joining Stockport County, where he made his debut for the Hatters in League One at the age of 18, before going on to train with Manchester United.
Barnes then moved to Hednesford Town, with whom he won the Evo Stick Play Offs, before joining Colwyn Bay, where he was the Club Captain for three years.
He moved on to Bangor City and Newtown, whom he helped to a Top Six league finish, and has also played for Northwich Victoria, Marine and Glossop North End.
“I am really excited to join Aberystwyth,” he said. “I came close to joining in January, so I’m really glad to get it over the line, and try to help the club reach the Top Six. With the squad being built by the management, I feel we have every chance.”
The Seasiders have also announced the arrival of Wales U21s international forward Owain Jones, a Swansea City Youth, who also had spells at Yeovil Town, Merthyr Town and Nuneaton Borough.
He scored 16 goals in 20 appearances for Swansea City’s U18s team, and was offered his first professional contract in 2014. In January 2017, Jones signed for Yeovil Town on loan and made his English Football League debut.
Jones said: “I am really excited to make the move to Aberystwyth. After some great conversations with Gav and Baz over the last year, I feel that this is the right move for me. I can’t wait to get going when it’s safe to do so.”’
Left back Rhys Davies, a former Shrewsbury Town apprentice, has also signed from National League side Hereford, having also had spells at Nuneaton Borough, Chippenham and Merthyr.
