RHYS Norrington-Davies played his part at Cymru’s final friendly before jetting off to Baku for the opening Euro 2020 group matches.

Opponents Albania play in a similar style to Switzerland, Wales’ first opponents in Azerbaijan, but Robert Page's men will be hoping to better the 0-0 result they achieved at the Cardiff City Stadium.

With the Red Wall back in attendance and the anthem sung with gusto, the stage was set but the opening 45 minutes was a scrappy affair with Albania posing the greater attacking threat.

The former Ysgol Penglais pupil was one of Wales’ stand-out performers, playing at left wing back with Wales utilising three at the back.

He kept everything tidy, was always on hand to offer for the ball and spread the pitch wide by hugging the line.

Commentating on the action former Wales striker Malcolm Allen said he wouldn’t be worried at all if 22-year-old Norrington-Davies was thrown in for any of Wales’ three group games.

Chances were few and far between with both sides lacking attacking quality in the capital, with Neco Williams having arguably the best opening for the hosts midway through the second half.

The Liverpool youngster, whose father hails from Porthmadog and his grandfather still lives in the town, was believed to be unavailable for this game after being very harshly red carded against France in midweek.

But FIFA confirmed that as per article 27.2 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code the match fell under the jurisdiction of UEFA and their disciplinary regulations do not legislate for sanctions related to friendly matches.

Wales boss Rob Page was pleased with the workout: “There are no injuries and we’ve got minutes in the players that needed it to top up for next week.

“It was always about next week’s game.”

Commenting on the two pre-tournament friendlies he added: “Two difficult games for different reasons but we’ve got through unscathed and we’re all on the plane Monday and looking forward to it.”

And looking ahead to Cymru’s match against the Swiss on Saturday he said: “We have a pretty good idea of the starting 11, we’re pretty settled, barring any reaction to tonight.

“We’ll have a plan for training on Tuesday, and we’ll work it Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, then a bit of off time on Friday and then get ready for Saturday.”
