PENPARCAU ended the unbeaten record of Ceredigion rivals Borth United to notch their third successive win the MMP Mid Wales League division two on Wednesday evening.

A Mattie Davies penalty was all that separated the sides in this eagerly anticipated derby clash, in front of a sizeable midweek crowd at Min-y-ddol.

Davies’ attacking prowess was a constant threat to the Borth defence, but the visitors could have snatched a first half lead late on as Dion Ellis-Clark’s near post half volley was turned away.

An early chance fell for Dion Ellis-Clark as the second half got underway when he weaved his way passed the Arky defence, and his snap shot was superbly turned for a corner, but gradually the home side took control.

An infringement in the Borth penalty area allowed Davies to score from the spot, and they nearly increased their lead soon after as Mark Gornall’s superb free kick was brilliantly palmed on to the crossbar by Adam Walters.

As the darkness descended, Penparcau held on to their narrow win, which moved them two points clear of their rivals, with a game in hand.

Elsewhere in midweek, Machynlleth made it back-to-back wins with a 5-1 midweek win over rivals Dolgellau, to move up to third in the early table.

Jac Petrie led the way with four goals, including two penalties, to make it six goals in three days, and Sion Jones also hit the net as the visitors slipped to their second defeat, with David Edwards netting their reply, whilst Jonathan Sutton was sent off for Dolgellau.

Waterloo Rovers moved to the top of the division two table on goal difference in midweek as goals from Jack Weaver, Scott Holley and Andy Gwilt sealed a 3-1 win over visitors Abermule, who had equalised early on in the second half through Jack Jarman.

Newbridge-on-Wye eased to their second win with an emphatic 16-1 hammering of struggling Knighton, with Ollie Woods and Jake Bufton both scoring four goals for the hosts.

Aeron Powell, Ryan Powell and Kejan Foryszewski all netted doubles, whilst Lyndon Jones and an own goal completed the scoreline, with Adriano Girolami getting a consolation goal.

Jordan McFadden’s last gasp winner earned Rhayader Town their second league win with a thrilling 5-4 victory at home to Presteigne on Tuesday.

Rhayader led the way with a Tony Davies double and strikes from Aaron Bates and Taylor Wozencraft, but Tom Crichton, with a brace, Lewis Jones and an own goal maintained parity, until McFadden netted a late winner.

Elsewhere Mike Henderson-Smith struck twice as Forden United returned to winning ways with a 3-0 win at home to Churchstoke, with Tom Francis also getting on the scoresheet.
