PENRHYNCOCH were still looking for their first home points of the season in JD Cymru North after suffering a disappointing 3-1 reverse to Guilsfield at Cae Baker last weekend.
Despite winning both outings on their travels at Llanrhaeadr and Llanfair United, the Roosters have not fared so favourably at home, and their supporters witnessed a second defeat of the campaign.
Sam Litchfield struck midway through the first half to give the Guils an interval lead, before the visitors extended their advantage after the break through an Adam Davies penalty on 63 minutes and Jake Cook, who sealed the points on 70.
Penrhyn pulled one back through Jonathan Evans two minutes later but, despite a late flurry from the hosts, there was no way back as they endured a second barren day on home soil following their 2-1 defeat against Ruthin.
The Roosters were hoping for improved fortunes on home surrounds when they entertained struggling new boys Corwen on Tuesday evening, before then welcoming Gresford Athletic this Saturday.“I was really impressed with Guilsfield who were the better, more cohesive, side, and fully deserved the points,” said Penrhyn manager Gari Lewis. “It was disappointing from our point of view as we didn’t do the things that we usually do."We looked flat, lacked our normal energy and physicality and, although we defended well for much of the game, we gave away some poor goals. In the last 20 minutes we were more ourselves, got a goal back, and gave it a good go, but we needed that earlier.”
Guilsfield, after thumping Llanfair 6-1 the previous week, started brightly, with Adam Davies’ near post volley testing the reactions of home keeper Leigh Jenkins
Without Antonio Corbisiero and Owain James, the Roosters fell behind when Sam Litchfield found space following a free kick to fire home a loose ball, after a great move between Jake Cook and Davies.
Cook also forced Jenkins to tip the ball over with a long range strike, and Davies couldn’t finish when one-on-one with the keeper, as well as forcing a smart near post save before the half-time interval.
The second period saw Guilsfield in control again and two Chris Cathrall long throws within a minute early in the half saw Penrhyn scrambling the ball clear.
Jon Foligno was then penalised for handball on 63 minutes, with Adam Davies converting from the spot, before Jake Cook made it 3-0 seven minutes later following a mis-hit back pass before rounding the home keeper to slot home.
Jonathan Evans gave hope of a fightback when responding on 72 minutes with a smart finish after Stef Davies had flicked on, but there was to be no way back.
