PENRHYNCOCH Reserves celebrated their first league win of the season in the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District division one with an excellent 5-0 win over rivals Bow Street Reserves at Cae Baker last weekend.

Ifan Burrell led the way with four goals for the Roosters, and Craig Errington also got onto the scoresheet to lift them off the bottom of the table - despite having four points deducted from their league tally.

Still-winless Bont are now propping up the table after they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Talybont, who hit back from a goal down at half-time to take the points.

Trevor Jenkins had given the home side an interval lead, but Talybont turned the tables in the second half, with goals from Jamie Barron and Nathan Pemberthy, and young Huw Taylor in goal made some crucial saves to secure them the three points.

Dylan Evans scored a hat-trick and Tom Constantine netted twice as Llanilar Reserves eased to a 5-0 win at Borth United Reserves, to move up to fourth position in the Cambrian Tyres League division two.

Meanwhile Jasper Jones fired a hat-tick as Dolgellau Reserves emphatically beat Padarn United Reserves 7-1, along with goals scored by Mike Worsell, with a brace, Steve Williams and Jordan Tyrrell.

Borth United began the New Year with a solid 2-1 win at Churchstoke in the MMP Mid Wales League division two - and they will hope to keep closing the gap on the teams in the top half of the table in 2020.

The Crows travelled with just the bare 11 players, but they looked comfortable early on and created some good chances, before taking a deserved lead on 35 minutes.

Matthew Lewis threaded the ball into Ryan Davies’ path, and he weaved his way passed three defenders and fired a left-footed shot into the bottom corner.

Borth increased their lead early in the second half when Bryn McGilligan Oliver’s driven corner allowed Clive Morgan to head home what was a decisive goal.

Churchstoke rallied and missed a great chance to halve the deficit with a missed penalty kick, but a second penalty was awarded five minutes later this time Jamie Betton converted to give the hosts hope.

Elsewhere in division two, Jake O’Donnell netted both goals as Forden United overcame Abermule 2-0 to move up to fifth place in the table, whilst David Edwards scored twice as Dolgellau won 5-1 away at Presteigne, with Owain Williams, Jamie Jones and Tom Carr also on the scoresheet for the Meirionnydd side.
