PENRHYNCOCH maintained their terrific revival in the HG Cymru Alliance as they stretched their unbeaten league run to seven games with a 1-0 midweek win over Porthmadog at Cae Baker.
A close range strike from Sion James on the hour was enough to settle the issue, with the Roosters having won five of their last seven games, with the other two being drawn, to collect a total of 17 points.
They can finish no lower than 11th in the table but, with two games to go over the Bank Holiday weekend, they could move up a few more places.
“The boys have turned it around amazingly,” said boss Gari Lewis.
“We have found a formula which suits us, we have got bodies back and the players have found form again.
“We’re looking fit and strong at the moment, and could have gone on for another 90 minutes. To beat a club of their ilk is a real feather in our cap.”
Although Porth enjoyed plenty of possession, they failed to open up a resolute defence, ably marshalled by Jonathan Foligno and Sion James.
Breaks down the flanks by Porth’s Sion Edwards and Julian Williams were an early feature of the game, and a Cai Jones header flew over the bar.
Penrhyn’s main threats came from free kicks, and Harry Horwood required an alert response from keeper Richard Harvey at his near post, and on another occasion he needed to tip another effort from Horwood over.
At the other end, Julian Williams raced forward, but his shot went over, and a cross from Tomos Emlyn gave Sion Edwards a chance, but he fired over the bar. Williams was also narrowly off target with a free kick as it remained goalless at the interval.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, and there was an early header from Iddon Price, before an angled shot from Sion Erdwards went across goal and narrowly wide.
The Roosters then enjoyed a good spell, with Josh Banks having to head over his own bar, and keeper Harvey did well to tip a dangerous header from Owain James over the crossbar.
Then, on the hour, the Roosters managed to get their noses in front.
From a Harri Horwood corner, Harvey punched the ball away and Sion James was there to break the deadlock with a shot through a crowded box.
Porth fought on and an angled shot from Joe Chaplin went just wide, and a cross was kept out by Leigh Jenkins under pressure from Sion Edwards.
The visitors had a shout for a penalty turned down, and Ceri James was shown yellow for voicing his opinion, before he then came close with a shot from the edge of the penalty box.
Penrhyn, however, held firm and they will return to duty on Saturday, 5 May at home to Holywell, before finishing the season on Bank Holiday Monday away to FC Queens Park.
