PENRHYNCOCH FC have confirmed their retained list for the new 2020/21 Cymru North season, in addition to new summer signings Cledan Davies, from Tregaron Turfs, Gethin Jones, from Llanfair United, and unattached player Josh Shaw.
Retained players from last season include Leigh Jenkins, Sion James, Jonathan Foligno, Owain James, Tom Evans, Matthew Pemberthy, Gwion Pugh-Jones, Ethan Rees, Lance Jones, Steffan Gittins, Ifan Burrell and Carwyn Morgan.
Meanwhile Steffan Davies, Jonathan Evans, Antonio Corbisiero and Jack Rimmer have moved on to join Aberystwyth Town in the Cymru Premier league.
Aberystwyth Town legend Aneurin Thomas will manage the Roosters next season, assisted by another Seasiders’ legend in Sion James, after Gari Lewis stepped down.
“We are delighted to announce Cymru Premier legend Aneurin Thomas as our manager,” said a Club spokesman.
“Aneurin made over 400 top flight appearances for Llanidloes Town, TNS, Newtown and Aberystwyth Town. He has also played in Europe, and has represented Wales at Semi-Pro level.
“We are delighted to hire another manager born and bred in the village, to follow in the steps of Gari Lewis.
“We are also pleased to announce the appointment of Sion James as assistant manager, and he will balance his playing and coaching duties.
“It goes without saying that the Club was sad to announce the resignation of Gari Lewis as our first team manager.
“Penrhyncoch FC would like to thank Gari for all of his hard work and commitment since his appointment in 2011, and everyone wishes him all the best for the future.
“Gari would like to thank the supporters and players for the support he has had during his time as manager, and he will continue to support Penrhyncoch, a club he holds very dear to his heart.
“We would also like to congratulate Antonio Corbisiero, who has been appointed as assistant manager to Gavin Allen at Aberystwyth Town.”
Last season the Roosters finished in a very respectable eighth position in Cymru North, to secure their Tier Two status for next season.
PENRHYNCOCH FC could still end the year with silverware following confirmation that last season’s cup competitions will be completed.
The Central Wales Senior Challenge Cup was at the semi-final stage, and the Emrys Morgan Cup had one remaining quarter-final to play when last season’s campaign was curtailed due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.
It has been revealed, however, that with lockdown restrictions easing, Cup competitions can be resolved.
A Central Wales Football Association spokesman has confirmed the remaining Central Wales Cup and Emrys Morgan Cup ties will now be scheduled ahead of the start of next season, which remains to be set.
“We don’t have any firm dates as yet, but provisionally we are looking at the fortnight before the new season is due to start,” he said.
Penrhyncoch’s scheduled Central Wales Cup semi-final against Berriew will now be arranged in due course, and Guilsfield - who were in contention for a clean sweep of regional cup honours when last season was curtailed - will prepare for their semi-final against Cymru North rivals Llanidloes Town.
In the Emrys Morgan Cup competition, the outstanding quarter-final tie will see Newcastle take on Brecon Corinthians, with the winners going on to face Guilsfield Reserves in the last four, whilst in the other semi-final showdown Cardigan Town will take on Tregaron Turfs.
