PENRHYNCOCH are sweating on the fitness of forward Steff Davies as they look to build on their first win of the season in Saturday’s tough trip to Flint Town United (2.30pm).
The Roosters hit the road in good heart after a hat-trick from Jonathan Evans secured a 3-1 victory over Gresford Athletic in their last action in the Huws Gray Cymru Alliance two weeks ago.
They are now up to 11th in the table courtesy of the win, and with a game in hand on a number of sides above them.
After taking a break last weekend, Penrhyn return to duty with a tricky assignment against a Flint side who are unbeaten in their first three outings, with two wins and draw so far this season.
The Roosters are waiting on the fitness of striker Davies, who suffered a thigh strain while turning out for the reserves last Wednesday evening.
"He’s a strong lad who knows where the goal is, so we’re hoping he’s going to be fit," said boss Gari Lewis. "He’s had a bit of time to recover, but we’ll know more this week when we has a light training session on Tuesday."
Lewis added: "Flint is a challenge we’re looking forward to. They have a good ground, have strengthened this year and have brought in an ex-pro Andy Holden (who has had coaching roles at Everton, Hibs and Rotherham) as manager so it shows the pedigree of the side."
Apart from Davies, Lewis has a full squad at his disposal, and expects Jon Foligno to be available after the defender’s wife Melissa gave birth to a baby son last week.Unbeaten Flint, who beat Rhyl 1-0 last midweek in the Nathaniel MG Cup, have a few injury worries ahead of the game, with Matty Woodward and Carl Rodgers having both suffered hamstring problems.Meanwhile Mark Cadwallader had to depart the action at Rhyl due to a calf strain, and will need to be assessed to see if he's able to play a full part.Flint won 4-1 at Queen's Park in the last league outing, having also drawn at Holywell and beaten Ruthin Town.
