PWLLHELI’S hopes of emulating past glories in the FAW Trophy were ended in a crushing 4-1 defeat away at Llangefni Town, who completed a league and cup double over the Recreation Ground side.

Joint player-manager Adam Hall scored for Pwllheli on 26 minutes to reduce the arrears to 2-1, after the Talwrn Road hosts had imposed themselves with strikes by Craig Roberts on seven minutes and Sion Pritchard on 17.

The outcome of the fourth round tie continued in doubt for a good while in a competitive second half, when Pwllheli gave as good as they got. Big trouble then occurred, however, in three minutes towards the end, when Llangefni inflicted a double whammy, with efforts on target scored by Corey Sinnott on 78 and Roberts again on 81, to shatter Pwllheli’s hopes.

Elsewhere in the competition Llandudno Junction slipped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Corwen, who set up their win with goals from Tomos Williams on 12 and 56 minutes, before Brian Roberts replied with a consolation on 90 minutes.

St Asaph City marched on with a 2-1 win over Queens Park, courtesy of goals from Jake Walker on 22 and 51 minutes, despite Nathan Buckley levelling on 54 minutes.

Callum Parry’s hat-trick earned Llanrwst United a 3-1 win over Aberffraw, who replied through Andrew Jones, whilst goals from John Coady with a brace, Alek Walsh, Jason Wright Sean Williams and Tegid Lloyd earned Hawarden Rangers a 6-2 triumph over Mynydd Llandegai.

Cefn Mawr Ranger were beaten 6-3 in extra time by Welsh National League champions FC Nomads. Sean Killgannon (2), Jim Gambino, Lee Butterworth, Sam Buckley and Josh Rimmer netted for the visitors, with John Jones (2) and Aron Blackwell replying for the home team.

Carno will fly the flag for the Spar Mid Wales League in the last 16 of the FAW Trophy after they registered an excellent 3-0 fourth round triumph at Penycae.

Second half goals from Gregg Brown and Richie Evans, with a brace, evenutally secured a worthy win over the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) outfit.

Machynlleth bowed out of the competition with a 4-2 defeat against Lock Stock Welsh Alliance high-fliers Trearddur Bay.

Goals from Jordie Murphy, Rhys Brown, Ryan Jones and Craig Moore secured the visitors a hard-earned win, but Machynlleth had stayed in touch, courtesy of their goals by Drew Page and Sion Williams.

Meanwhile Llanrhaeadr also bowed out with a 4-2 defeat to Brecon Corries, despite goals from Iwan Matthews and Ben White, whilst Radnor Valley were also beaten 3-1 at home against Chirk AAA, who triumphed with goals from Joe Roberts. Matty Thomas and Tom Freeman.
