PWLLHELI - who won through to the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two Cup Final by beating semi-final favourites Felinheli - were held in a 2-2 draw by the same opponents in a league re-run.
Ben Ogilvey’s side opened up a 2-0 lead at half-time, after netted efforts by Dafydd Gwyn Jones on 18 minutes and Mark Jones on 41, but third-from-top Felinheli mounted a storming recovery in the closing quarter of the game with two replies from Iwan Owen on 72 and 78.
Penmaenmawr Phoenix picked up points with a 3-1 win at fellow high-flyers Gaerwen, with goals from Mike Lundstram, Alfie Caldecott and Dan Williams, whilst Tim Cavanagh netted for the hosts. Luke Appleby meanwhile scored twice as Llannefydd beat Llandudno Junction 2-1, with Jack Nettleton scoring the reply.
Ryan Rowlands and Azzy Rogers both scored twice as Llandudno Amateurs hammered Kinmel Bay 6-1, with Aidan Bell and Scott Court also finding the net, with Ashley Wood scoring for the Bay.PENRHYNDEUDRAETH were delighted to secure a rare win on the road as they beat Nantlle Vale 3-2 at their own Maes Dulyn ground to book Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division one points, and also stretch their unbeaten run to six matches.After looking fairly comfortable with a two-goal lead just past the hour mark, the team from Maes-y-Parc got caught up in a late scoring surge, to put the win in doubt.A goal barely a minute after the kick-off from Cai Henshaw had provided Penrhyn with an immediate boost, and the second netted effort from Tom Hughes after 63 then seemed to settle the visitors’ nerves.In the closing minutes, Matthew Davies reduced the deficit on 81, but Penrhyn’s Adam Griffiths made it 3-1 on 88, before the hosts’ Aaron Thomas netted on 89.Promotion-chasing Denbigh Town returned to league action and collected valuable points in a predictable 4-0 romp at winless basement outfit Prestatyn Sports.Denbigh hit two goals in each half, initially from Jonathan Terry on 15 minutes and Jake Walker on 31, and then Mark Roberts on 76 and Harvey Tattum on 88.Llanrug United picked up a 3-0 win at Bodedern Athletic, thanks to Allan Mark Owen netting after two minutes, Dylan Owen on 41 and Jonathan Sadler on 84.Llanberis were also away day successes, as they beat Llandyrnog United 2-0 at their Cae Nant base, with Gwyn Pritchard Jones opening the scoring on 10 minutes, and Ifan Mansoor securing the win on 80.It was 1-1 between St Asaph City and Llandudno Albion, after rival goals being scored by the hosts’ Josh Brown on 45 minutes and the visitors’ Joel Lloyd on 85.• In the Reserves Division, goals by Llyr Cawley, Luke Roberts, with a brace, Steven Parry and a Cai Price penalty earned Llanrwst Utd a 5-1 win at Kinmel Bay, who had replied through Connor Hughes.Mawddach Challenge Cup
BLAENAU Ffestiniog Amateurs bowed out of the Mawddach Challenge Cup at the first hurdle as an extra time winner from Alwyn Roberts clinched a dramatic 6-5 win for visitors Mynydd Llandegai.
Heavy rain on Friday had made ground conditions soft and then muddy in parts, and it got worse as the match went on.
Mynydd Llandegai opened the scoring with a goal from Keiron Freeman Jones on eight minutes, but the hosts were soon level when Meilir Williams made it 1-1.
Play went from end to end, and before the half hour mark Mynydd Llandegai were to restore their lead, courtesy of goals from Dewi Owen and Osian Jones.
The Amateurs, however, hit back with goals from Iwan Griffiths and Meilir Williams before the half-time break - and two minutes into the second half Sion Roberts scored twice to out them in control at 5-3.
The tie was still far from over, however, as Osian Jones and Alwyn Roberts hit back for the visitors to make it level again. The hosts then saw their top scorer red-carded after his effort ended in the net, but was ruled offside - and he made his views known to the referee and linesman.
The visitors went close in the closing minutes as they twice saw efforts hit the bar and post, before it went to extra-time. There were chances at both ends, but Alwyn Roberts finally netted the winner on 112 minutes which takes his side to a second round home tie against Greefield.
Barmouth and Dyffryn United can look forward to welcoming Llandudno Junction to Wern Mynach on 15 February in the second round, after they won their first round tie 2-0 away at Mochdre Sports.
Keeper David Jones was called on to make several vital saves, but they gained the lead on 53 minutes when Joe Soar converted from close range, after a corner.
The decisive second goal arrived on 75 minutes from Ben Williams, who curled a superb shot beyond the home keeper after making a strong 30 yard run along the left.
Cup holders Llanrwst United also booked their passage into round two with a solid 5-2 result over Amlwch Town. The Gwydyr Park side piled up goals through Tom Jones on 12 minutes, Ben Lundstram on 14, Leon Doran on 19, Chris Nicholson on 47 and an own-goal on 70, with Tom Wynne on 12 minutes and Luke McGivern on 45 scoring the reply goals.
A second round tie awaits Llanrwst against Holyhead Hotspur, who are still chasing four pieces of silverware, having qualified for the Welsh Alliance’s Cookson Cup final by beating hosts Greenfield by 2-1 in the semi-final last weekend.
The Deesiders landed the first blow, when Ryan Jones scored on the half-hour, but the second period belonged to Holyhead, with goals from the Jones boys, Corey on 52 minutes and Chris after 76.
The other Cookson Cup semi-final will be between Denbigh Town and Nantlle Vale at Central Park on 29 February.
Aberffraw are through to the Take Stock Challenge Cup Final after early goals from Gary Boulton and Nathan Moore earned a 2-0 semi-final success over Gwalchmai.
Welsh League (Wrexham Area)
LLANUWCHLLYN impressed as they notched an excellent 2-0 away win against Brymbo in the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Premier Division.
First-half strikes from Iolo Gwyn Jones and David Prysor Jones laid the foundations for their eighth league win this season, before the visitors kept things tight.
Unbeaten Holywell Town lead the way after doubles by Alec Williams and Luke Edwards earned a 4-0 win over former champions Queen’s Park, who had Barry Torrence sent off for a second booking.
Llay Welfare won 4-1 at overnight leaders Rhostyllen, with goals by Ryan Goodband, who scored twice, Matthew Worrall and Tom Wells. Tom Douglas replied.
Jack Roberts scored a hat-trick as Saltney Town beat Brickfield Rangers 8-4, with two goals from Ben Evans, and singles by Stephen Chiocchi, Elliot Bond and Jordan O’Brien. For Brickfield, Andrew Vale had led the way with all four goals.
Mold Alexandra won 4-3 at Chirk AAA, courtesy of goals from Louis Middlehurst, with a brace, Steve Watkin and Danny Warren, whilst James Blackwell, with a brace, and Ryan Lightwood replied. Lloyd Ellams scored twice as Penycae won 2-0 away at Castell Alun Colts.
