PWLLHELI stepped up a gear in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division one as they ran out worthy 6-2 winners over visitors Penrhyndeudraeth in an action-packed derby encounter.

After three straight defeats, and conceding a lot of goals, Pwllheli bounce back with an excellent performance against a Penrhyn side flying high in third-from-top position.

The home team had quickly built up a 3-0 advantage, with strikes from Jamie Banks on 20 minutes, Lucas Baltovic on 23 and then Mark Jones on the hour-hour.

Penrhyn, without nine regulars, got back into contention with Meilir Williams’ reply goal after 32 minutes.

Allan Jones then trimmed the arrears to 3-2 on 49 minutes, and it was game on right until the closing stages.

Tom Smith had a chance to put Penrhyn level, but Pwllheli’s keeper Jiri Kober pulled off a crucial save, from which the hosts broke to score at the other end. Mark Jones made the situation 4-2 on 89 minutes and then Terry Ogilvey burst through to slam another goal for Pwllheli right on 90.

Mark Jones also converted a penalty to complete his hat-trick on 90-plus-three.

Elsewhere, league leaders Trearddur Bay United had their 100 per cent record after six matches shattered in a 2-1 defeat at Llandyrnog.

Ryan Harden’s Cae Nant team prevailed through early goals from Mark Roberts on 15 minutes and Lee Brophy on 22, long before Trearddur narrowed the gap with Miles Jones’s direct free-kick strike after 83.

The dismissal of Bay keeper Brian Roberts midway through the first half compounded their problems, when already 2-0 down.

Meanwhile the derby between Glan Conwy and Llanrwst was postponed, because the pitch was unfit.DIVISION TWOBLAENAU Ffestiniog Amateurs registered their third win on the bounce with a hard-earned 2-1 home win over Cemaes Bay, taking them out of the bottom two in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division two table for the first time this season.

The Quarrymen had to dig deep to secure victory in the final minutes as the visitors threw everything at them.

Both sides had their fair share of the ball in the opening half, but neither keeper had a decent save to make.

The deadlock, however, was broken just before the interval when Bryn Humphreys went through on goal and was brought down by Bay keeper Huw Shaw. Humphreys got up to slot home the penalty kick.

The visitors went close to levelling the scores in the second half when Oliver Hall’s shot struck the post after some good approach work by Steven Whitaker.

The visitors found themselves 2-0 down on 70 minutes as Cai Henshaw, on his debut for the hosts, scored with a well-taken effort.

The visitors threw more players forward, and they went very close when an effort hit the home bar.

On 83 minutes they pulled a goal back when they were awarded a penalty for a push in the box from a corner. Whitaker stepped up, but Gavin Lewis saved his first effort, before Whitaker slotted home the rebound.

Still the visitors pressed on, and they had a good chance of a late equaliser, but Kennon Donney headed his cross wide of the goal.

Elsewhere in division two, Tom Paddock scored a late winner as Penmaenmawr snatched a 3-2 win over second-placed Meliden, to go five points clear at the top.

Dan Williams had opened the scoring for Phoenix on 14 minutes, but Chris Marsden replied three minutes later to make it 1-1 at the interval.

Zyron Davies restored their lead on 71 mintes, but within a minute Chris Roberts equalised - before Paddock bagged the winner with just two minutes to go.

Elsewhere an effort from Shaun Monument, an own goal and two late strikes from Darren Lewthwaite earned Pentraeth a solid 4-0 win over Llannerchymedd.
