HAVING shared the Welsh Alliance points at Ffordd Padarn earlier in the season, Pwllheli and Llanberis were equals again in a 2-2 draw at Recreation Ground.

Pwllheli, however, were kicking themselves at having let slip a two goal lead 20 minutes from the end, and missing out on a penalty shout, which could have made the score 3-0.

The first half was goalless, although chances were created at both ends, and the teams could have been reflecting on a 2-2 situation at the break.

For Pwllheli, Lucas Bratisluv tested keeper Louis Williams with a firm header, following Carl Jones’s free-kick, and Jones himself went close with a set-piece towards the target.

The home defence, with Jiri Kober in goal, survived a few goalmouth scrambles, and they escaped when Llion Jones volleyed just over - and he sent another effort against a post.

Pwllheli, however, quickly netted within two minutes of the second half through Mark Jones, who cut inside from the right to drill a low 12-yard effort beyond the visiting keeper.

That lead was doubled on 65 minutes by Rhodri Scott, who, after being fouled by Gethin Wakeham, initially saw his penalty saved - but Scott was sharp enough to net the rebound.

A few minutes later, however, referee Allen Rowlands shrugged off Pwllheli’s strong claims for a second penalty, after Barry Evans was sent sprawling by a tackle from behind.

Llanberis were spurred by the let-off and their revival got under way on 70 minutes, with the first reply goal from Gethin Maxwell, by means of a close range header from a right-wing cross.

Pwllheli were undone finally on 80 minutes by Llanberis’ late equaliser when Wakeham applied a firm a header from close range, after a long throw had been flicked on in the box.
