PWLLHELI slipped to 2-1 defeat against Welsh Alliance leaders Llangefni Town for the second time in a month - but perhaps had reason to feel hard done by.
Now four points clear in the title race, Llangefni completed the home and away double with the deciding goal from newly arrived sub Steve Jones on 80 minutes.
The home defence was vulnerable when Jones went on a blistering solo run along the right wing and cut inside to deliver a superb cross-cum-shot that flew past keeper Kieron Roberts inside the far post.
During Pwllheli’s purple patch early on, they should have gained several goals, certainly more than the one from Carl Jones on 20 minutes, when he powered a glorious free-kick from fully 35 yards.
Pwllheli’s other attacks saw manager Jason Jones have a headed effort disallowed, and Mark Jones was also denied a penalty, after being seemingly fouled.
It was out of the blue when Llangefni equalised with 35 minutes gone, Steve Sinclair applying a close range header to convert Iwan Jones’s right-wing cross.
The second half was evenly contested, with Pwllheli being limited to a Kyle Goodfellow drive that was saved by Llangefni’s Kieron Williams on the hour.
Llangefni stepped up a gear for the crucial closing phases, and substitute Steve Jones provided the winner - but Pwllheli were still very much in contention.
Although man-of-the-match Tomos Jones had been forced off by an ankle injury, Carl Jones had one last chance in the dying minutes, only to see his snap shot flash just inches over the crossbar.
