PWLLHELI slipped to their third straight defeat in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division one as Llandyrnog United plundered a 2-0 win at the Recreation Ground through second half strikes.

The damage was caused on 55 minutes as home defender Ifan Gwilym miscued an attempted headed clearance into his own net, from Liam Jones’s left wing cross.

Then, right at the end, home keeper Lee Fletcher, an outfield player who had a decent debut between the posts, was adjudged to have brought down opponent Mark Roberts, and Roberts slotted home the penalty.

Pwllheli had been awarded a penalty in the first quarter-of-an-hour, when Tomos Jones was sent sprawling, but his conversion attempt was turned around the post by keeper Richard Parry.

After a goalless first half, played in trying conditions of wind and rain, Pwllhei’s Mark Jones saw a netted effort disallowed, and Tomos Jones also went close twice.

Penrhyndeudraeth meanwhile picked up another set of Alliance points, with a 3-0 win over Llanrwst United.

The rivals will meet again at Maes-y-Parc in a fortnight’s time in the FAW Trophy’s third round, and Mike Foster’s squad will now be regarded as the favourites.

Steve Jones scored within a minute, when finishing from close in, after a right-wing cross by Adam Griffiths.

Jones’ second goal on 24 minutes was a 35-yards’ rocket, after he had cut in from the left side, and linked up well with Iwan Thomas.

Jones was denied a hat-trick by the post, and Tom Smith raised a header over the bar, when finding the net had seemed to be easier.

The second period was largely uneventful, as Foster’s men dictated the pace of the action, albeit without adding to the score for so long, Richard Jones notably steering a free header wide.

Then, with five minutes left, Meilir Williams, who had been involved all afternoon, gained his reward with goal number three, chasing Smith’s assist to beat the Llanrwst keeper.

Barmouth and Dyffryn United were on the receiving end of a 9-2 defeat at mid-table Llanrug, having conceded four goals without reply in the opening half.

Llion Owen produced a reply for Barmouth on 52 minutes, as did Adam Moore on the hour, to reduce the arrears to 5-2, but Llanrug then added four more goals.

Barmouth keeper David Linstead was forced to work overtime, and he was beaten by Luke Phillips’ four goals for Llanrug, as well as doubles from Gavin Jones and Jonathan Sadler, plus Carl Griffiths with one goal.

Last season’s champions Trearddur Bay United came from behind to beat last season’s title runners-up Llandudno Junction by 4-1, to make it six wins out of six.

Shrugging off a goal from Aaron Boyle on 16 minutes, Trearddur prospered with replies from Jordan Murphy on 23, Curt Williams on 61, Dale Murphy after 71 and Bryn Roberts on 78 minutes.

Second-from-top Abergele Town remain four points behind after a 7-0 demolition of Glan Conwy, where six scorers joined in the action.

Tom Clarke bagged a brace of goals on 15 and 31 minutes and singles were provided by Matthew Lewis on 41, making the situation 3-0 at half-time, James Hay on 52, Kieron Ellis on 68, Ryan Woods on 81 and Danny Abbott on 87 minutes.

Third-placed St Asaph City lost ground because of a 2-0 home defeat to Glantraeth, brought about by Kieron Jeffries netting on 16 minutes and Andy Barker on 30.

Nantlle Vale beat Llanberis 3-1, thanks to Ashley Owen’s goal on 45 minutes and Kai Holdsworth’s pair on 75 and 85, whereas the visitors had been level through Gwyn Jones on 60.

Greenfield and Llangefni Town, in mid-table with identical records, proved inseparable in a goalless draw.
