NEWCASTLE Emlyn are the new leaders of the Costcutter Ceredigion League division one after they beat long-time leaders Bargod Rangers 3-2 at Parc Emlyn.
Rangers had made a superb start to this top of the table encounter, when top scorer Robbie Jenkins let rip from well outside the penalty box.
Jake Harries levelled matters against the run of play, but Bargod, who had played some of the smarter football in the opening half an hour, regained their lead when Ollie Evans found the net.
The second half was very competitive, with chances at both ends, but the Reds hit back when Oscar Higgins fired home past goalkeeper Joe Turner.
There was little between the sides going into the latter stages of the game, but it was the hosts who snatched the win when Peter Almond score a crucial late winner.
Rangers, who have led for most of the season, but who have hit a sticky patch in recent weeks, are still only a point behind the Reds - and still have a game in hand.
Lampeter chalked up the biggest score for many a day when they fired 17 past Pencader, with both Mark Rivers and Rob Slawkowski netting four goals apiece.
Gethin Hunter and Luke Lovell also hit hat-tricks, and there were goals for Szymon Konwiak and Joe Jenkins in an emphatic win for Lampeter, who also beat New Quay 7-1 in midweek.
Cardigan Town were held to a 1-1 draw away at New Quay, and their chances of retaining their league title are beginning to look slim, especially as they have so many matches to play and a smaller squad to choose from compared to last year.
The Magpies were all over the Seasiders for most of the game, but struggled to find the back of the net. Talented midfielder Tomos Toft eventually opened the scoring, but a second half equaliser from Craig Richardson stole a point for the hosts.
St Dogmaels, who mathematically can still figure in the race for the title, meanwhile enjoyed a comfortable 6-0 win against Felinfach.
Goals from Steve Williams, Justin Smith, Jason Williams, Rhys Jones, Adam Williams and Tom Phillips saw them take the points.
Dan ‘DJ’ Jones and Scott Thomas scored to help steer Llandysul to their eighth win of the season with a 2-0 home verdict over Crannog.
Chris Davies’ side has only lost two league games this season, and they are another side who could figure prominently in the title race.
In midweek, a hat-trick from Adrian Hazelby and singles from Dean Jones, Dan Jones and Ben Thomas had also earned them a 6-1 home win against Pencader.
Mid-table Aberaeron Reserves sneaked through for a 3-2 win over Aberporth with Lamin Manjang, Rhydian Lake and Jason Jones netting for the Seagulls.
In midweek, Aberaeron had lost 1-0 at home to Felinfach, with Kieron Boyes netting their winning goal.
The eagerly-awaited top of the table clash in division two between Dewi Stars and Cilgerran was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch last weekend, after Rovers had been held to a goalless draw in midweek against a battling Cardigan Reserves.
Cilgerran are within touching distance of getting back into the first division and three wins from their last five matches would see them clinch the league title.
Two goals from Ollie Davidson-Howell helped Llanboidy to register a 2-0 win over promotion hopefuls Maesglas, whilst in the Reserves Cup a brace from Sion Thomas and a single from Declan Harries earned Llanboidy Reserves a 3-1 win over Bargod Rangers Reserves last weekend.
