BORTH United dropped home points as Rhayader Town took their chances to secure a 3-0 win in difficult playing conditions at Uppingham Fields in the MMP Mid Wales League division two.
Goals from Mark Davies, Gareth Hughes and Taylor Wozencraft ensured that Rhayader consolidated their top five position, whilst third-from-bottom hosts Borth slipped to their eight league defeat.
The overnight frost made the playing surface heavy going from the outset and Borth nearly took the lead within five minutes as Guto Huws’ rasping shot hit the crossbar and came down on the line.
The visitors, however, took the lead on 35 minutes when Mark Davies cut in from the right wing and his low shot beat the home keeper at the near post.
Within a minute the visitors had increased the lead as Gareth Hughes converted a cross from the right wing and scored with a glancing header, to give Rhayader a 2-0 advantage at the interval.
The pitch deteriorated badly as the second half progressed, and the players found it naturally difficult to adapt.
Home boss Ian Lewis made changes late on to give some fresh legs a chance, but in the closing minutes Taylor Wozencraft scored with a low shot to secure a deserved three points for the visitors.
Aberystwyth University finally notched up their first league success of the campaign - at the 14th attempt - with a timely 4-3 home success against Presteigne.
Adam Gascoigne scored twice, with Pablo Detorres and Lucas Thomas also finding the net to close the gap on second-from-bottom Presteigne, who had stayed in touch with goals by Tom Lewis Pen, Duane Anning and Marcus Pearce.
• Aberaeron got back to winning ways in the MMP Mid Wales League division one as they notched a 5-0 home win over Chruchstoke, with goals from Sam Middleton, Ianto ap Dafydd, Steffan Gittins, Elwyn Evans and Ifan Burrell.
