SUPER SUB Mikey Diggle netted a last-gasp extra-time winner to send Costcutter Ceredigion League leaders St Dogmaels through to the semi-finals of the Cwpan Coffa Dai ‘Dynamo’ Davies with a 2-1 win over Penparcau.

The Greens had created the first real chance when striker Peter Almond blasted over the crossbar, and midfielder Adam Williams also saw a header saved by keeper Dan Pritchard.

The visitors, who appear to be running away with the title in the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League, pushed hard up the slope, with Liam Jacques causing a few problems and Mikey Gornall becoming more influential.

The deadlock was eventually broken after the interval, when experienced striker Matty Davies was put clean through on goal, and his chip over keeper Casey Walters was only half saved, before he slotted the rebound.

Both keepers were called into action, with one shot from Louis Harding producing the save of the game.

The Saints, however, were awarded a penalty for handball with just 12 minutes remaining, and Harding slotted home the rebound after his initial spot kick had been saved by the keeper.

Penparcau pushed up, with Davies having a couple of decent chances saved by keeper Walters, whilst at the other end wing back Chris Morgan was presented with a golden opportunity in the final minute of normal time, but he shot straight at the keeper.

The Saints grew in confidence in extra-time as their fitness levels came to the fore, and the introduction of Diggle changed the course of the game.

The former Cardigan RFC scrum half was brought on for the final 15 minutes and was unlucky not to score when his shot went just wide of the post.

With just three minutes left on the clock, however, Harding flicked the ball through to Diggle who found himself with a one-on-one with the keeper, and he fired the ball low into the bottom corner to snatch victory.

“Penparcau are a very good side and they know exactly where their strengths are, which is in their wingers and their centre forward,” said St Dogmaels manager Steve Williams.

“They also have a hard working midfield who are able to quickly pick out their danger men with accurate passing, and they are also very physical. It’s no surprise to me that they have been doing so well this season.”

Williams also saluted the performance of his team and in particular central defender Mindagaus Simaliskaus who was superb at the back alongside skipper Jason Williams.

Meanwhile Costcutter Ceredigion League side Llandysul joined Saints in the last four after they secured a 3-1 win away at Bow Street Reserves.

Talented teenager Harri Wilson bagged two of the goals, but there was little in this match until late on, with the sides changing around at 1-1.

Shaun Jones netted for the Magpies, but Wilson completed his brace in the second half and Gareth Winston also scored to secure their semi-final place.

• In the Costcutter Ceredigion League Aberaeron Reserves boosted their hopes of division one survival with a 3-2 win over visitors Llanboidy.

Simon Bray headed home at the far post, before Dafydd Roberts doubled the lead for Aberaeron, but Boidy hit back with goals from Frazer Wyatt and Chris Bowen, before Keelan Noble clinched the win with a stunning strike for his first ever senior goal.

Richard Thorne meanwhile scored a hat-trick for Llanboidy Reserves as they beat Maesglas Reserves 6-0 in division three, with goals from Ifan Jones, with a brace, and Iolo Clement.
