ABERYSTWYTH Town can’t wait to get going again in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League after last weekend’s home fixture against Port Talbot Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Next up is a trip to face Airbus UK Broughton on Saturday, and their 3G pitch means that the weather should not be the winner again this weekend.
The Seasiders, who have picked up 14 of their 19 points on the road, will be keen to avenge their 2-1 home defeat to the Wingmakers in September.
After recent home defeats against The New Saints and Mbi Llandudno, Aber had claimed an encouraging 2-2 draw at Rhyl the previous Friday.
In that match they were boosted by the return of seven-times Welsh Premier Golden Boot Rhys Griffiths, who has not lost a Welsh Premier game for Aber since joining the club in June.
"A win could be a really significant result in our season if we want to go ahead and qualify for Europe automatically," Griffiths told atfc.org.uk.
"That’s still within our grasp, but we need more consistency both in terms of our performances and our personnel.
"I personally think our first 11-13 players are good enough to qualify for Europe, and if we can get our best players together on the pitch, then there’s no reason why we can’t succeed."
Geoff Kellaway is currently the only long-term absentee in Aberystwyth’s squad and he and is unlikely to be back from injury before the New Year.Airbus, by their own high standards, have had an uncharacteristically unsure start to the season, and have lost three times at home, 4-1 to Bangor and Newtown and 2-0 to Llandudno. They were also beaten 3-0 at Bangor last Sunday, and Aber, who have dropped to eighth place on goal difference, know a two goal win will put them back above the Wingmakers with a game in hand. The coach will leave Park Avenue at 9.30am and a return trip to Deeside costs £10 for adults and £5 concessions. Kick-off is at 2.30pm on Saturday.
