ABERYSTWYTH Town will be hoping for improvement on Friday evening when they travel north to face Connah’s Quay Nomads (ko 7.45pm).

Matthew Bishop’s side slipped out of a top six position in the JD Cymru Premier with a 2-1 defeat at home to Airbus UK Broughton last weekend, and it promises to be a tough test at Deeside.

The unbeaten Nomads secured a place in the fourth round draw of the Scottish Challenge Cup last weekend with a 1-0 win against Cove Rangers, and will go into the match with real confidence.

Bishop admitted that it was a frustrating home defeat, as goals either side of the interval from Kristian Platt and Andy Owens set up a deserved first league win for newly-promoted Airbus.

“It was a lacklustre performance,” said the former Newport County, Aldershot and Hereford assistant boss.

“Full credit to Airbus, they came here and thoroughly deserved the three points.

“I thought we were poor, we never really got started, and it took us until probably the last 25 minutes to really get ourselves into the game.

“I was disappointed at us conceding a goal so quickly after half-time. It forced us into a bit of a shape change, which I thought helped us.

“But overall I’m disappointed because I thought it was an opportunity to pick up some additional points.”

The competition for places hots up this week, with Swansea City midfielder Tom Price coming on as a second half substitute to make his Aber debut on Saturday, having joined the club on a loan deal until January.

The Seasiders have meanwhile announced three updates to their fixtures, with their Nathaniel MG Cup third round tie at holders Cardiff Met now scheduled for Tuesday, 24 September.

The JD Cymru Premier match at Carmarthen Town has been moved to Friday, 18 October, to accommodate live television coverage on S4C, and the match at home to Bala Town on Friday, 8 November will also be broadcast live, meaning another 8pm kick-off time.

Aberystwyth’s Under 19s beat Torfaen Academy 8-0 last weekend, thanks to goals from Richie Ricketts, with a brace, Ifor Jenkins, with a brace, Rhodri Jones, Dylan Benjamin, Geoff Kellaway and Daniel Owen to make it two wins from two matches.

There was an opening day win for Aberystwyth Town Ladies’ Development side, as goals from Dwynwen Davies, with a brace, Kelly Thomas and Delun Roberts sealed a 4-0 win at Lampeter.

The newly-promoted Ladies’ first team had launched their Cymru Premier campaign with a 3-0 defeat away against Port Talbot, and they will host Cardiff Met Women at Park Avenue on Sunday.
