ABERYSTWYTH Town will be looking to put themselves in pole position in the race for the play-offs when they resume action at Llandudno on Friday evening.

The Seasiders, who had no action last weekend, are currently two points adrift of Welsh Premier Play-Off Conference leaders Cardiff Metropolitan University, who host Carmarthen on Saturday, and with five games to go it looks like a two-horse race for top spot.

After notching back-to-back wins over Cardiff Metropolitan and Carmarthen, Aber’s assistant manager Gavin Allen is now looking for the Seasiders to maintain their momentum.

“Since the league break, we’ve won three, drawn one and lost one, so we’re right in the mix. If we can get points in our next matches against Llandudno and Llanelli we’re seriously in it,” he said.

“We’re looking at one game at a time, and if we can get a win at Llandudno I think we can be serious contenders.”

Goals from Ryan Wollacott, Geoff Kellaway and an own goal secured three important points against Carmarthen, but Allen said that there was still room for improvement.

“We’ve played a lot better and lost,” he said. “Before the game, we had said that three points was a must, we expected Cardiff Met to win at Llanelli and it was all about what we could do against Carmarthen.

“We made a tactical change in the second half and changed the system a bit because it wasn’t working. Nev (Powell) made the call, and fair play to him, he was spot on in the decision, and we got the points.”

The Seasiders are now looking to make it three league wins on the bounce, against a Llandudno side that are eight points adrift in the drop zone.

The two sides drew 1-1 at Park Avenue last month, but Aberystwyth had beaten them twice in the first phase of the campaign, and will look to complete a hat-trick over their opponents this season.
