PORTHMADOG made it five wins from six outings as loan player Sion Bradley’s solitary winning goal saw off visitors Mold Alexandra in the Cymru Alliance.
The 18-year-old from Blaenau Ffestiniog, who is involved with Bangor City’s Academy, secured the home points when he broke the deadlock after 43 minutes.
From a throw-in on the right, Cai Jones beat two Mold defenders and squared the ball across the box to Bradley, whose 18-yard strike sped into the visitors’ net.
That proved to be Porthmadog’s only goal, but they outplayed the opposition for the vast majority of the proceedings for their latest home-and-away double.
Squad changes had centred on Jamie McDaid’s transfer to Holywell Town and Julian Williams to Colwyn Bay, with the arrival of Meilir Williams from Penrhyndeudraeth and ex-Bala Town.
Porth went close to opening their account in the first minute, as Cai Jones and Josh Davies exchanged passes before the latter sent a 15-yarder inches wide.
Mold countered quickly and pressure from a free-kick ended with Sam Richardson raising a header over the bar.
After that, it was all Porthmadog in the first period, notably when Davies had an 18-yard drive blocked on the goal line, as did Bradley after having got behind the visitors’ defence and keeper Mike Jones.
Porth were denied by the woodwork on 23 minutes, when Cai Jones launched into a diving header from eight yards to direct Davies’s cross against the crossbar.
Davies had one shot smothered by the keeper and dragged another chance wide, before Mike Jones used his feet to fend away a threat by Cai Jones from the left.
Bradley’s goal close to half time was the calming influence that Porthmadog required, and they used it to inspire an assured performance after the resumption.
Although Mold did manage to secure more possession, no real threats occurred, whereas Porthmadog had three notable opportunities to build on their lead.
Chris Jones directed a 15-yarder that was well-saved by the keeper early on, Davies was denied from the edge of the box, and then on 75 minutes, Davies also scooped a chance from four yards over the top.
