ZAC Allanson kept a cool head to drive home a vital extra spot kick to earn Nefyn United a dramatic 6-5 penalty-shoot-out triumph over Llanystumdwy in their North Wales Coast Junior Cup derby tie.
The two local rivals were all square at 1-1 after 90 minutes of their third round tie, and extra time failed to separate them.
The game went to penalties, and Llanystumdwy looked favoured twice, when 1-0 ahead and then 3-2 in front, only for Chris Jones’ Nefyn to triumph.
Allanson was the sure-footed marksman who converted the Cae’r Delyn side’s sixth attempt to send the hosts through.
In open play, Llanystumdwy had struck first through Sion Parry’s goal on 38 minutes, when turning in a centre from the left side, only for Nefyn’s Daniel Roberts to level matters after 44 minutes, following Meical Williams’s flick forward.
Mark Dunn also went close for Nefyn, as did Daniel Roberts and Meical Williams, while Llanystumdwy’s most dangerous attacker was Sion Parry, with Tom Williams also heading inches off target.
Elsewhere in the Junior Cup, Gwynedd League title front-runners and current holders Bro Goronwy were knocked out at Gwalchmai in a 3-2 thriller, which was settled by Gavin Jones right at the end.
Gwalchmai’s Craig Evans had netted on 13 minutes and Gerallt Jones on 44, with Bro Goronwy scoring equalisers by Callum Thomas on 24 and Sam Regan on 75.
Waunfawr, losing finalists last season, also went out of the competition as they beaten 3-1 at home against Rhuddlan Town, who had two goals from Jay Whitehouse and one by Matthew Beech.
Valley, of the Anglesey League, were resounding 6-0 winners away to Rhyl Rovers, mid-table in the tier-five Vale of Clwyd and Conwy Premier Division.
Justin Williams led the way with a hat-trick, with Marc Wilson, Konner Druce and Mark Hamblin adding singles.
Two ties were postponed, including Bontnewydd’s scheduled appearance at Caergybi and Llangoed versus Holyhead Town. Both are listed for this Saturday.
NWCFA Junior Cup Quarter Final Draw: Gwalchmai v Llansannan; Nefyn United v Rhuddlan Town; Valley v Caergybi or Bontnewydd; Llangoed or v Rhyl FC Youth..
