PENRHYNCOCH got their JD Cymru North campaign back on track with as two second half goals from Steff Davies overturned a half-time deficit to secure a 2-1 win over Buckley Town at Cae Baker.

The visitors had led when Lewis Hone headed home a 15th minute opener, but Steff Davies netted a quick-fire brace with 10 minutes remaining to keep Gari Lewis’ side well-placed in a top six position.

After their 3-0 defeat at high-flying Conwy Borough, it was the perfect response from the Roosters, who welcomed back Jonathan Evans, Jon Foligno and Jack Rimmer, but were without the suspended Lance Jones after his red card.

The visitors started brightly and their early pressure paid off with a soaring header from Hone, but Penrhyn responded well with Evans getting his foot to a cross, only to fire his effort over.

Buckley, managed by Dan Moore, held the upper hand until the interval, and early in the second half the hosts were indebted to keeper Leigh Jenkins, who produced a fine save to deny Connor Littler.

Penrhyn, who have the second-best defensive record in the league, weathered the storm, however, and they left Buckley stunned as Davies’ quick-fire brace with 10 minutes remaining secured the points.

Their sixth league win sees the Roosters lying sixth in the table ahead of testing week, which saw them travel to face a rejuvenated Porthmadog in midweek, before then hosting Cardiff Corinthians in the JD Welsh Cup this Saturday.

Elsewhere Prestatyn Town made it seven league wins on the bounce when beating Llangefni Town 2-0, with first half goals from James Stead and Jack Higgins.

Rhyl moved up to second place with a 3-1 victory at Gresford Athletic, with first half goals from Danny Sullivan, Sam Molyneux and Arek Piskorski cancelling out Jake Eyre’s opener for the hosts.

Porthmadog made it back-to-back victories with a 3-1 at Llanfair United, with John Owen, Jay Gibbs and Sion Parry scoring to cancel out a Toby Evans goal.

Flint Town United are third in the table after they triumphed 3-2 at Llanrhaeadr, where Mark Cadwallader and Callum Bratley twice put the visitors ahead, only for Matthew Evans and Joe Vaughan to level, before the Silkmen sealed it with a 70th minute penalty from Richie Foulkes.

Colwyn Bay meanwhile took the spoils as they registered a 2-0 win at bottom side Corwen, with Tom McCready and Morgan Owen netting the vital goals.

Adam Jenkins was a hat-trick hero as Guilsfield defeated Conwy Borough 4-2 at Clos Mytton. Callum Bromley also struck a decisive 80th minute fourth for Guils, with Cory Williams and a Corrig McGonigle penalty replying for Boro.

Bangor, who made headlines with the managerial appointment of Pedro Pasculli, who won the World Cup in 1986 in the same Argentinian side as Diego Maradona, are ninth in the table after their 1-1 draw at Ruthin Town last weekend.

City took the lead through Simone Rea’s 58th minute opener, but Gwion Owen levelled for the hosts in the 85th to ensure that the honours ended even.
