CARNO staged a remarkable comeback to pick up a valuable three points on Friday evening, as high-flying Rhayader Town’s perfect home record ended in a 5-4 reverse at the Weirglodd.

The Greens found themselves 3-0 down on 18 minutes, with Richard Powell’s deflected shot opening the scoring inside five minutes. Ten minutes later a 25 yard strike from Ashley Jones deceived keeper Kris Williams, and Powell towered above the defence to head home a corner for a 3-0 advantage.

The Greens, however, were given a lifeline when Richie Evans beat his man on the right side and his cross was fired home by Gregg Brown. Then, moments before half time, Brown released Peter Rees to curl home their second and see the half end 2-3.

Carno were ahead within five minutes of the restart when Ashley Owen released Richie Evans to equalise, before veteran Colin Reynolds put them ahead when he pounced onto a loose ball inside the box from a Jordan Jones knock down to score.

The Red Kites fought back well, however, and they levelled on the hour, when Carno failed to clear their lines and Mark Davies curled into the top corner of the net.

Yet, with 26 minutes to go, a Carno set-piece found ex-Caersws and Newtown stalwart Reynolds, and he expertly picked out Humphreys to score the winner.

New signing Harry Holt, from Machynlleth, made a good impact for Carno off the bench, and he was denied twice, whilst Gregg Brown saw a header clear the crossbar, and Richie Evans had a shot blocked.

Llanidloes Town maintained their winning streak to move up to sixth spot in division one with a comfortable 3-0 victory at rock bottom Montgomery Town.

Llani were always in the ascendancy and took an interval lead when Ed Clarke released Rob Bumford down the right, and his fine cross was met by an excellent finish by Josh Mathews.

After a drab first half, Llani looked more incisive after the break and surged further ahead seven minutes into the second period when sub Joe Evans, who had replaced the injured George Clarke, provided a good low finish.

Montgomery rarely threatened, and the points were wrapped up when Matthews netted his second goal of the game with a low strike from the edge of the box.

Rhys D Evans had a couple of chances to increase the Daffs’ goal tally, while Kevin Coates also provided some late spark after he had come on as a substitute.

Hay St Mary’s registered a solid 3-0 win away against Welshpool Town as goals from Steve Morgan, Adi Lawford and Brendan Hackett, with a 30 yard screamer, earned them the points.

Morgan opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a left-footed shot, and the Saints continued to put Welshpool under pressure.

Hackett hit the underside of the bar, and Morgan and Jack Biggs both saw efforts well saved by the keeper.

The Saints extended their lead on 62 minutes when Morgan saw his shot saved, but Adi Lawford was on hand to tap in the loose ball.

Hackett ended any Welshpool thoughts of a comeback when he hit a 30 yard effort into the top right corner, and young home goalkeeper did well to prevent more goals.

Aberaeron are up to fifth place in the division one table after they registered a solid 2-0 win over visitors Knighton Town, courtesy of winning goals from Gareth Severs and Tom Jones.

Bow Street meanwhile dropped to eighth place as they went down 2-1 at home to Llanrhaeadr, with Iain Edmunds and Daniel Kelly scoring the winning goals, whilst Dean Evans netted the reply for the Magpies.

Machynlleth also dropped home points as they lost 3-1 to Llandrindod Wells, as two goals by Ryan Sims and a Darren Murphy penalty sealed the win for the visitors, despite Sion Williams scoring Machynlleth’s goal.
