DOLGELLAU Reserves made progress in the Len and Julia Newman Memorial Trophy as they registered a last-gasp 2-1 win over Tregaron Turfs at the Marian.
Goals from Mike Worsell and George Jackson-Townshend earned the Meirionnydd men their ticket into the next round, whilst Ifan Jones netted for the Turfs.
In Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League action, Borth Reserves’ new management team were delighted with their 9-2 home win over Machynlleth Reserves at Uppingham Fields.
Two goals in the first five minutes set them on their way, with Jake Bush netting from close range, and Christian Jones doubling the lead with a fine individual effort.
Mach got back into the match with a scorching drive from outside the penalty area by Cai Thomas, but Tony Mainwaring and Jake Bush added to Borth’s tally.
Mach’s Dez Roberts replied from the penalty spot to make it 4-2 at the interval, but it didn’t take long for Borth to extend their lead in the second half, with Scott Wilson scoring with a low shot, and Tony Mainwaring then netting his second goal.
Mainwaring crowned a fine afternoon by scoring a penalty for a well-deserved hat-trick, and stalwarts of the club, Steve Bailey, with a cool finish, and Mikey Bailey, with a header, completed the afternoon’s scoring.
Llanilar hit back from being a goal down to register a 5-1 home win over Penrhyncoch Reserves at Castle Hill.
Hefin Hopkins had opened the scoring for Penrhyn, but goals from Paul Bonner, Dylan Evans, Ryan Edwards and a brace from substitute Guto Roberts sealed the win.
The scheduled match between Aberystwyth University Reserves and Aberdyfi was meanwhile postponed.
Elsewhere Jamie Evans scored a hat-trick as Talybont Reserves returned to the top of division two, with just two league games left to play, as they beat Aberystwyth University Thirds 3-2 in their top of the table clash.
It remained scoreless at the interval, but the Aber students netted twice in the second half through Jamie Stuart and Garem Jones.
Two goals by Jamie Evans ensured that it all square at 2-2, and both teams then went all out to win the game.
It was Evans who secured the points by completing his hat-trick, but Talybont also needed a fine save at the death to deny the students.
A late penalty by Andrew Carree meanwhile sent Bont through to the semi-finals of the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League Cup with a 1-0 win over title rivals Bow Street Reserves.
Five minutes from the end, Bont midfielder Lee Jones broke into the box and was brought down, and up stepped Carree to confidently convert the spot kick.
