CLEDAN Davies netted a hat-trick as Tregaron Turfs signed off August with their fifth successive win in the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth District League division one, with a 6-2 triumph over Penrhyncoch Reserves.
The Turfs were again guilty of conceding an early goal, just as they had done against both Llanilar and Aberdyfi, but they hit back well to take the points.
Darren Thomas had opened the scoring for Penrhyn after just a minute, when the Turfs’ defence failed to clear their lines, but the hosts hit back within five minutes when a corner kick by Ryan Hurrell was headed home strongly by Deian Williams.
Cledan Davies then scored two goals in two minutes to put the Turfs 3-1 up after 20 minutes, and Rhun Garner cut in from the left midfield and played a nice one-two with captain Ifan Jones to smash home their fourth goal from the edge of the box.
A second goal from Garner put the Turfs 5-1 up just before half-time, and they increased their lead on 52 minutes when an inch-perfect pass by Ifan Jones on the left found former Aberystwyth Town player Davies in acres of space to smash his third.
To their credit, Penrhyn battled to the end and they were eventually rewarded in the 74th minute when the lively Ifan Burrell slotted the ball past keeper Matt Toy.
Bow Street Reserves bounced back from their defeat to Tregaron to beat Talybont 2-0, with goals by Neil Davies and Aled Llyr Hywel.

Paul James scored twice as Padarn United notched a solid 3-1 win away at Aberdyfi, with Chris Carton also on target. James Roberts hit the back of the net for the hosts.
In division two, Dolgellau Reserves travelled to newcomers Corris United for their opening league game of the season, and came away with an emphatic 6-0 win.
Mike Worsell and Rodney Lee Thomas both scored twice for the visitors, with further goals by Nathan Thomas and Jasper Jones completing an emphatic win.
Ben Holt scored a hat-trick as Penparcau Reserves launched their league campaign in style by recording an emphatic 12-0 away win at Padarn United Reserves.
Ben Lewis, Jake Bush, Keiran Duggan, Keenan Thomas, Jordon Lee Perry, Trevor Gore, Lee Morgan, Wayne Gornall, and an own goal completed the rout.
Costcutter Ceredigion League
AFTER a 5-0 midweek defeat to Lampeter on their return to the Costcutter League division one, Dewi Stars rang the changes for their trip to last season’s runners-up Crannog, and came away with a 4-2 win.
Marc Davies had put the hosts ahead on the half hour with a clinical finish, but after the break a series of one-twos down the right flank between Siencyn Jones and Oscar Cayo Evans ended with Evans smashing the equaliser.
Robbie Evans tucked home to retake the lead, after Iestyn Edwards had made an excellent save from Marc Davies, but David Beck ran on to Ifan Thomas’ through ball to drill an equaliser from 18 yards.
Minutes later, as a fine cross from Leon Holmes was met with a great header at the far post by Beck to take the lead, and late on Beck was upended in the box, and up stepped Ifan Thomas to pick his spot and secure the three points.
There was contrast between the two managers, as Gary Davies took charge of his first game for Crannog, following Rhydian Morgan’s resignation in midweek, while Stars’ John Jones was starting his 31st season in the hot seat.
